2013 NFL MOCK DRAFT, Post Free Agency

1) Team – Pick: Luke Joekel, OT, Texas A&M

Analysis: Andy Reid will always be famous for adding offensive and defensive linemen in the draft, and early. The top spot this year is up in the air, but one thing is for sure; after trading for Alex Smith, the Chiefs need to make sure their offensive line keeps him upright. The Chiefs were smart to place the franchise tag on Albert, and I could see them trading him away on draft day to a team that misses on one of the top offensive tackles in the 2013 draft. Albert deserves to play LT, so even if the Chiefs don’t trade him away this year, watch Andy play Albert at LT and mentor Luke into the position while he plays RT his rookie season, after Eric Winston was lost in free agency.

Second Option: Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida – With losing Dorsey in Free Agency to inter-conference rival Denver, Andy Reid may be take the fast rising Sharriff to add the a powerful front seven.

Team Needs: RT, OLB, CB

2) Jaguars – Pick: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia

Analysis: It is no secret that Blane Gabbert is not seen, nor performs, as a starting quarterback in the NFL. It was a gutsy move to draft Gabbert in the Top 10, and unfortunately the team whiffed. Time to reset and look to a new option at quarterback. The current rave in the NFL is for mobile quarterbacks, and Geno Smith fits the bill. Early in the offseason his draft stock fell, but after a strong West Virginia Pro Day, Geno Smith is now seen again as a Top 10 draft pick for a team needing a quarterback. Key here is a team needing a quarterback, so I see Jaguars, Bills, and Cardinals as being main players in Geno Smith in April.

Second Option:  Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama – Losing Parrish Cox in Free Agency to the San Diego Chargers takes their best secondary player out of their roster. Filling this hole with the top corner in the draft would not be a bad first move of the new head office in Jacksonville.

Team Needs: QB, CB, OLB, RT

3) Raiders – Pick: Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida

Analysis: Plain and simple, they need help on the defensive line… before free agency, after free agency, and lucky for the Raiders their need lines up nicely with the players that are available still at the top of the 2013 NFL draft. Floyd was a beast in the SEC last year for Florida, and would fit in nicely in a Raiders uniform.

Second Option: Star Loutulelei, DT, Utah – I think the pick is between the two top DTs, so this pick will be whoever the Raiders fall in love with. I think Floyd is the more sure fire bet, but some are amazed with what Star was able to do last year.

Team Needs: DL, LB, QB

4) Eagles – Pick: Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama

Analysis: Although most have Eagles drafting OL, I think that Jason Peters will play LT for another year, and draft an OL for RT might be too high at #4, when they still have Dee Milliner on the board. Trading down would be an option here for teams trying to get Eric Fisher, but taking the best cover corner in the draft is not a bad idea on the opposite side of Chip Kelly’s high speed offense. Locking down the opposing deep threat will keep opponents from coming back against the Eagles in 2013.

Second Option: Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan – The Eagles could really use an upgrade at RT, as I think Jason Peters will get another year to show he can lock down the left side of the offensive line. Some have Eric Fisher better than Luke Joekel, so getting Fisher here at #4 wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Team Needs: CB, S, OT, QB

5) Lions – Pick: Eric Fisher, OT, Cental Michigan

Analysis: The Lions lost both of their 2012 starting tackles this offseason, and they would be wise to address this need very early, especially with a player like Eric Fisher on the board still, and who I actually like more than Joekel.

Second Option: Dion Jordan, OLB, Oregon – Lions also lost two DE’s this offseason and some are touting Dion Jordon as the best player in this years draft. If he is still available at #5, the Lions will look closely at him as well as Eric Fisher. In the end though, keeping Stafford upright is way more important, and why I think the Lions go tackle for this pick.

Team Needs: OT, DE, WR

6) Browns – Pick: Chance Warmack, OL, Alabama

Analysis: This is Trent Richardson’s team right now, and both of the Brown’s current Guards are liabilities. Some seen Warmack as the best player in the draft, and could go as high as #1! This is probably going to be the least “sexy” pick of the top 10, but could end up yielding the most rewards in 2013… 2000+ yards rushing for Trent Richardson?!

Second Option: Dion Jordon, OLB, Oregon – This is the pick that everyone assumes the Browns will make as they continue to evolve into a 3-4 defense.

Team Needs: QB, CB, OL, OLB

7) Cardinals – Pick: Dion Jordon, OLB, Oregon

Analysis: Man did I want to pick a offensive tackle or guard here, especially with 3 or 4 available… but in the end, the Cardinals make a splash with this pick and finally snag Dion Jordon off the boards. This kid is freakish and some compare to Jason Pierre Paul off the Giants squad.

Second Option: Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma – The line needs help, and although they can start with who they have, whoever they have at quarterback needs some more help. Lane is extremely smart and could literally line up at multiple positions across the offensive line, making him a very smart choice here.

Team Needs: OT, QB, RB, OLB

8) Bills – Pick: Ezekiah Ansah, OLB, BYU

Analysis: The Bills have slowly transitioned to a 3-4 defense, and with so much money put into the front 7 they really need to start producing. Getting to Tom Brady twice a year is a major priority, and the Bills take a big risk with huge upside on Ansah. The kid has freakish pass rushing ability and would look really good opposite of Mario Williams.

Second Option: Matt Barkley, QB, USC – Here is the first time Matt Barkley’s name will come up in the 2013 draft first round, and could be the only time… but with that being said I still think that Matt Barkley is a first round talent. He really hurt his stock coming back to USC for his Senior year, but his numbers weren’t so bad he should drop out of the first round, and since there is such a high priority on quarterbacks I could see the Bills snagging him up before he is gone in the second round.

Team Needs: OLB, QB, WR

9) Jets – Pick: Barkevious Mingo, OLB, LSU

Analysis: Ive had this penciled in for over 2 months now, and I don’t see it changing. Mingo is a perfect player for Rex Ryan to utilize while he calls plays next year, and if he is still available Rex will definitely scream to get him drafted. The defensive line is much improved and has some great youth, and getting a top rushing linebacker in the draft will greatly help this defensive unit as a whole.

Second Option: Trade down!!! Jets need help, and they really should try hard to trade down and get some more draft picks to continue to build this unit. With a few of the best OL in the draft still available, past the top 3, count on a few teams calling to see what it would cost to move up and get one of them.

Team Needs: QB, OLB, WR/TE/RB

10) Titans – Pick: Star Leautleli, DT, Utah

Analysis: Not sure how he fell this far, but I think some teams will be nervous about the heart condition, whether he past the primary physicals or not. With that being said he is a very big man, that can take up a lot of space, and could one day look something like Ngata in Baltimore. Titans need help in the middle of their defensive line, and if Star is still available at 10, they pass on the OL draftees and pick the big man from Utah.

Second Option: Jonathan Cooper, OL, UNC – The Titans desperately need help on the interior of their line, and with some of the top offensive line talent about to come off the board they might be thinking of snagging one before that happens. This pick would greatly help Chris Johnson is his attempts at breaking the single season rushing title.

Team Needs: OL, DL, S

11) Chargers – Pick: Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma

Analysis: It’s a good day to be a Chargers fan and Phillip Rivers! He finally gets a stud protecting him on the offensive line. Everyone knew they needed to draft help on the line, especially when losing the best player on the 2012 team to free agency. Luckily Lane Johnson fell to the Chargers, who can line him up at either left or right tackle. I still think they should draft a guard in either the second or third round of this year’s draft as well.

Second Option: Jonathan Cooper, OL, UNC – Big man on campus in UNC, will fit right in with Phillip Rivers, who also is from North Carolina. Losing Vasquez in free agency to in conference rivals Denver hurt, really bad, but getting a player like Cooper can make everyone forget about him. Cooper can road grade people, and easily get into the second level, where Mathews should enjoy some additional running yardage.

Team Needs: OT, OL, CB,

12) Dolphins  – Xavier Rhodes, CB, FSU

Analysis: Losing Sean Smith in free agency could hurt the Dolphins more than anything in the coming year, so it would be wise for the head office to address this need early in the draft. Xavier Rhodes is an amazing press cover corner, and would be a fan favorite by staying in Florida after college. Picking him this high is a little bit of a stretch, but unless the Dolphins can trade back they would be smart to address their greatest need, especially playing in the same conference as Tom Brady!

Second Option: Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia – Not the fan favorite pick, but aside from the off the field issues, Jarvis is an amazing rush the quarterback talent, with top 5 ability. Lining him up opposite of Cameron Wake would not let Tom Brady sleep well twice a year.

Team Needs: OL, CB, OLB

13) Buccaneers  – Desmont Trufant, CB, Washington

Analysis: When all is said and done, I think Darell Revis will in fact be counted towards this draft pick. The Bucs desperately need a top notch corner, and why draft one when you could trade the pick for a proven commodity like Revis-Island? Sure he is coming off an injury plagued year, but I still think he is one of the top 3 starting corners in the NFL, and getting him with the #13 pick would be a steal in any GM’s book. With all that being said, if the trade doesn’t materialize, and with Xavier Rhodes just coming off the board, the Bucs look at the next corner on the board in Desmond Trufant, brother of Seattle’s starting corner.

Second Option: Johnathan Banks, CB, Miss St – If the trade for Revis doesn’t go through, then this pick will come down to either Trufant or Banks and whoever the Bucs feel can come in from day 1 the best.

Team Needs: CB, LB, WR

14) Panthers  – Bjorn Werner, DE, FSU

Analysis: The Panthers were horrible rushing the passer last year! Everyone around the league is looking for the next J.J. Watts, and I think Werner will stop his draft day plummet here in Carolina. Bjorn was born in Germany and has the nonstop motor that will make Panther top officials not blink twice snagging him. The Panthers do well fulfilling their greatest need by taking a top 10 player here at number 14.

Second Option: Cordarelle Patterson, WR, Syracuse – The Panthers are going to need to keep to surround Cam Newton with offensive threats and Steve Smith isn’t getting any younger. Taking the best WR of the draft would make a splash for sure.

Team Needs: DL, OL, WR

15) Saints  – Jarvis Jones

Analysis: Common theme for the Saints is that they need to get an impact defensive player in the 2013 draft. Lucky for them, Jarvis Jones has fallen right into the Saint’s laps. The Saints are switching to a 3-4 defense after having one of the worst defenses in the NFL history in 2012. Jarvis Jones will bring a presence off the edge rushing the passer, and is a perfect OLB for the new 3-4 scheme.

Second Option: DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Syracuse – The WR corp of the Saints is not that great and Drew Brees makes them look much better than they really are. DeAndre is an amazingly versatile WR, after playing QB, and could be the answer the Saints are looking for across the middle of the field, or even as a red zone threat. I see a lot of Anquan Boldin in him.

Team Needs: LB, DL, Secondary

16) Rams  – Jonathan Cooper

Analysis: The Rams are very happy that Jonathan Cooper is still on the board, as I, and many, have him rated as a top 10 talent. Lucky for the Rams that guard isn’t normally drafted very high, so Cooper is still available at 16. The Rams definitely need help along the interior of the offensive line and Cooper will instantly help from day 1.

Second Option: Cordarelle Patterson, WR, Syracuse – The WR from Syracuse gets another look here by the Rams, as the franchise has determined that they need more offensive talents for Bradford. Signing Cook was a great offseason pickup, but getting the best WR in the draft could be enticing. In the end, the Rams have a pick a little later in the first round that they can still get one of the top WR, so they upgrade the OL, which will pay bigger dividends.

Team Needs: OL, WR, S

17) Steelers  – Cordarelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee

Analysis: Losing Mike Williams was a blow that the Steelers fans and teammates had a hard time swallowing. The Steelers also have a few big needs here also, so picking a WR is not always the wisest choice, but the Rooney family takes the WR Patterson, and hopes to give Big Ben a big time red zone threat for years to come.

Second Option: Kenny Vaccarro, S, Texas – If Kenny Vaccarro is still available here at the 17th pick, the Steelers will take a long hard look. Troy Palomalu isn’t getting any younger and has a hard time staying healthy for an entire season. Drafting another hard hitting safety as his heir apparent would be a smart idea for a franchise that is known for hard nose defensive play.

Team Needs: OLB, WR, S, DL

18) Cowboys  – Kenny Vaccarro, S, Texas

Analysis: The Cowboys need immediate help at the Safety position, and I think this is where the University of Texas, hard-hitting safety comes off the draft board. Church is coming off an ACL injury, and Sensabaugh was released in the offseason; the Cowboys need a Safety in the worst way.

Second Option: DJ Fluker, OT, Alabama – Fluker may be a true RT, and with the Free experiment gone wrong in Dallas, Jerry Jones may very well take the massive Fluker to wall off the right side of the offensive line. I actually like this pick best, due to being able to get rid of Free’s contract, which is abnormally large since he was signed as a LT but playing the cheaper RT position.

Team Needs: S, OL, LB

19) Giants  – Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M

Analysis: GM Jerry Reese loves taking DE’s in the draft, and this year will be no different with Moore still on the board. Tuck had a down year in 2012, and Osi is flirting with other teams in free agency and may not be back. Moore is a little raw, but had a great 2012 season, and did Reese balk on someone being “raw” when he reached on Jason Pierre Paul?

Second Option: DJ Fluker, OT, Alabama – Diehl was a nightmare at RT last year and shouldn’t be allowed to play there again. Fluker would solidify an offensive line unit that needs to protect Eli in the worst way.

Team Needs: OT, DE, LB

20) Bears  – Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia

Analysis: This pick might shock a lot of people, but I think Tavon Austin will get a solid look here by the Bears. They really have tried to surround Jay Cutler with weapons by bringing in Marshall, and Jeffrey now shaping into a nice #2. Wes Welker has shown how impressive a small, quick WR can be out of the slot in a West Coast offense that Jay Cutler thrives in, so why not take Austin who is sometimes compared to Wes Welker quickness.

Second Option: Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU – The end has come for Urlacher in Chicago, and the franchise will need a leader at this position. If Kevin Minter is still available the team will definitely need to look into this being the pick.

Team Needs: OL, LB, WR

21) Bengals – DJ Fluker, OT, Alabama

Analysis: Andre Smith is creating an interesting situation in Cincinnati; for the first time the team has no huge holes, so they can draft for a few positions. Smith could be back, but taking Fluker would give the franchise another premier tackle to build the team around for the next decade.

Second Option: Matt Elam, S, Florida – The team needs to get better at the Safety position, and should move Clements back to being a corner where he belongs. Matt Elam is a smart player that could excel in this defense.

Team Needs: RT, LB, S, RB

22) Rams (from Redskins) – Keenan Allen

Analysis: Could the Rams be more lucky? First they take care of a huge need by getting Jonathan Cooper, and now Keenan Allen is still available for the team! Bradford needs a prime time threat on the outside to stretch the defense and go up high for grab balls; Keenan Allen will be his new best friend. Adding Keenan Allen, and Jared Cook, will pay off huge for the offense in 2013.

Second Option: DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Syracuse – Which WR will be favored more by the team, Hopkins or Allen? Whoever it is will be picked at this draft spot.

Team Needs: OL, WR, S

23) Vikings – DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Syracuse

Analysis: The Vikings has a ton of needs in this offseason and they already signed Greg Jennings in free agency but I think they continue to give Ponder offensive weapons. This could be a little high and they might look to this pick at #25, but I think the front office will be scared of the Colts grabbing him at #24 now that the WR’s are starting to come off the board.

Second Option: Johnathan Banks, CB, Miss St – Winfield was released and the team was looking at Claiborne last year in the first round; getting Banks here would be a smart move. I could also see Johnathan Hankins getting a look here.

Team Needs: CB, WR, DL, OL

24) Colts – Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri

Analysis: Richardson is an explosive player and although the team signed Aubrayo Franklin in free agency, they get a young player to build the DL around. Richardson is good against the run and pass, which will help immensely in this conference.

Second Option: Eddie Lacy, RB, Alabama – Lacy is seen as one of the true 3 down backs of the 2013 draft. The Colts, and specifically Andrew Luck, would benefit a ton from the hard-nosed Lacy running between the tackles all day long.

Team Needs: OLB, DL, OL, WR, RB

25) Vikings (from Seahawks) – Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio St.

Analysis: Perfect player, at the perfect time. Kevin Williams needs another strong presence playing next to him, and Hankins would definitely fit the mold. He excelled in the Big Ten conference and would help the mediocre LB corp.

Second Option: Johnathan Banks, CB, Miss St – Again, getting Banks here would be a smart move.

Team Needs: CB, WR, DL, OL

26. Packers – Tyler Eirfert, TE, Notre Dame

Analysis: Finley has said that there is a 50/50 chance he will be playing for the Packers in 2013, so the front office has quietly taken notice and will be picking another TE early in the draft. They will look hard at taking Tyler Eirfert early, before he gets drafted by someone else. Eirfert excelled at the combine and will definitely be the first TE off the board come April.

Second Option: Eddie Lacy, RB, Alabama – The Packers have been looking for an every down back for some years now, and taking Lacy would definitely fill that void. I really like Lacy at the end of the first round, and with the Packers I see there being a great fit.

Team Needs: WR, RB, OL, OLB

27) Texans – Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU

Analysis: The Texans desperately need to get some help at ILB next to Cushing. Minter is a steal at the #27 pick and the Texans would be stupid not to snag the falling LSU star. He is a perfect fit for an ILB in a 3-4 defense and Wade Philips will have a great time rushing him through the A gaps.

Second Option: Robert Woods, WR, USC – Getting a #2 WR has been a top priority for some time now, as they need to stop letting Andre Johnson getting double teamed every week. Anyone thinking that he is getting older too as well? Not only could this be a complement to Johnson, but also his heir apparent in a few years; not a bad franchise move.

Team Needs: WR, OL, LB

28) Broncos – DaTone Jones, DE, UCLA

Analysis: There is no doubt that the Broncos will be looking to draft a DE in this years draft due to the “fax issues” of resigning Dumervil. Even if Dumervil is resigned I think Elway becomes enamored by this PAC12 prospect. Few people have heard of DaTone Jones, but after watching tape, I see why he is flying fast up draft boards, and will be a beast rushing the passer as a 3 technique DE.

Second Option: Matt Elam, S, Florida – The Broncos are looking to upgrade the middle of their defense this draft, and Matt Elam would be a smart pick here. Brass has given their blessing to Rahim Moore, but don’t be fooled that they wont look to upgrade the position.

Team Needs: DE, S, LB

29. Patriots – Alex Okafor, DE, Texas

Analysis: Belichek really likes versatility in his defensive front 7, and I think he leans towards drafting Alex Okafor here. Okafor was a stud at Texas and also the combine, and would be a huge upgrade at DE for the Patriots. He can also line up as a DE in traditional 4 or 3 man fronts.

Second Option: Matt Elam, S, Florida – McCourty really is a corner and should be moving back to that position in 2013. The team signed Adrian Wilson, but getting a young Matt Elam could help the defense for a long time to come.

Team Needs: DL, WR, CB

30) Falcons – Johnathan Banks, CB, Miss St.

Analysis: Dunta Robinson is gone in free agency, and although Grimes is a solid starter, he is coming off an ACL injury. Drafting Banks would help this huge hole on the Falcons roster.

Second Option: Tank Carradine, DE, FSU – The Falcons also have a huge need at DE, and Tank Carradine is seen as an impressive talent rushing the passer off the edge… problem, he is also coming off ACL surgery, and could be a risk considering the Falcons must get a starter out of this draft pick.

Team Needs: CB, DL, LB

31. 49ers – Matt Elam, S, Florida

Analysis: Gholdson was allowed to leave in free agency due to the Niners being cheap and not wanting to pay many of their key players to stay around. Getting Matt Elam will sooze a lot of angry fans in the bay, and could eventually be an upgrade over Gholdson who left at an expensive price tag.

Second Option: Jesse Williams, NT, Alabama – This defense hasn’t had a true NT in a long time, and this could be the year that they find it. Williams is a huge body and can easily lock up multiple blockers on the line of scrimmage. I still think the team has bigger needs and looks elsewhere early on.

Team Needs: Secondary, OLB, DL

32) Ravens – Alec Ogletree, LB, Georgia

Analysis: Ray Lewis is gone and the team needs to find an heir apparent. They find one luckily at the end of the first round in Alec Ogletree. Some would think that the Ravens would be scared of the off the field issues… but, the loved Ray Lewis was once charged for manslaughter, so I think maybe they found the perfect pick indeed. Never the less, Alec is a hard-hitting middle linebacker and would thrive in this defense behind Ngata.

Second Option: Robert Woods, WR, USC – This WR has unreal talent but wasn’t showcased enough last year on national TV due to USC being such a failure. With that being said, the team gets Woods to quiet the loss of Boldin leaving town.

Team Needs: LB, S, WR

2011 NFL Mock Draft v.4

Filed under: 2011, Mock Draft, NFL — Kelso @ 10:04 AM

2011 NFL MOCK DRAFT v.4 (Rounds 1)

Round 1

#1 Pick: AJ Green, WR, Georgia                                                Team: Carolina

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Here is the shocker of most mock drafts! AJ Green is by far one of the top WR talents to come out of college in a long time (i.e. Randy Moss, Calvin Johnson). So, why a WR? Clausen is not horrible, and given another year with a talented WR could do just the trick to bring his learning curve around. If he doesn’t plan out as the starter, at least another year will give him good experience to be a reliable backup of the future. And, if he sucks so bad, and they flop again, guess who they can make a play for… Andrew Luck. Also, with bringing in some talent at WR, Steve Smith will be more likely to resign, since he wont have as much coverage on him anymore.

Optional Picks:

– Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri: Like any mock draft, someone will consider taking a QB for Carolina. To me Gabbert is more ready and mature for the NFL, than Cam Newton.

– Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama: When I think of rebuilding a franchise, I think defense, both lines, and quarterback. The best player here is Dareus, who could be a future HOF’er.

Team Needs: QB, WR, DL

2010 Rd1 pick: Jimmy Clausen (2nd rounder, first team pick) (Grade: C)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Andrew Luck (Pick #1)

#2 Pick: Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama                                     Team: Denver

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Denver is one of the biggest winners, because now they have so many needs on defense, and have the picking of any of them. Dareus will fill a huge need on the interior of John Fox’s new 4man defensive front.

Optional Picks:

– Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M: This pick would shock me, but there have been linkings of Denver to Von Miller, and he has been rising up the draft boards for a long time now.

– Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri: New head office, and coaches, usually means new quarterbacks. If they decide to pick a QB, Gabbert will be the pick for Elway and Fox.

Team Needs: DL, OL, CB

2010 Rd1 pick: Demaryius Thomas (22nd pick) (Grade: B-)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Patrick Peterson (Pick #2)

#3 Pick: Cam Newton, QB, Auburn                                    Team: Buffalo

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Ownership of Buffalo always telegraphs their intentions, so I think they look to take a new direction at QB, and pick Cam Newton. Here is the problem, I believe that Cam Newton is the next Jamarcus Russell, and they should be sticking with their current QB who Chan Gailey likes. The defense needs so much help on this squad it will be a shame to see them take a QB… but, they still do.

Optional Picks:

– Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU: The best player on the board has to get a look, when you consider how horrible this defense is, and the division they play in (Tom Brady anyone?).

– Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M: Top brass has also been linked to this high rising defensive star, and it is well known that coaching staff is horrible dissatisfied with their past first round OLB pick. Drafting Miller, would allow him to come right in, once Shawne Merriman gets hurt, once again.

Team Needs: QB, OL, DL

2010 Rd1 pick: C.J. Spiller (9th pick) (Grade: A-)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Nick Fairley (Pick #5)

#4 Pick: Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson                        Team: Cincinnati

Help-MyTeam Analysis: I believe after his next medical workout, that the knee will be cleared, and Cincinnati will fill its DE pass rushing need, since AJ Green is already off the table. Although, he may be seen as a one-year wonder, Cincinnati takes risk on overall potential, and the ceiling is very high for Bowers.

Optional Picks:

– Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri: Anyone else see ownership wanting to draft Carson Palmers replacement? They might not trade Carson, but they definitely want to bring in someone that can take the reigns. I have Gabbert as being the best QB on the table.

– Julio Jones, WR, Alabama: This might be a little high for Jones at this point, but after his ridiculous combine, he could definitely be a pick here, since Cincinnati has so many WR issues to take care of this offseason.

Team Needs: DE, OL, QB

2010 Rd1 pick: Jermaine Gresham (21st pick) (Grade: B)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Da’Quan Bowers (Pick #3)

#5 Pick: Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri                                    Team: Arizona

Help-MyTeam Analysis: This is the first time I have Arizona getting a QB, but with Gabbert still on the table, I think they have a hard time passing on him, especially since he is seen as relatively NFL ready from game 1.

Optional Picks:

– Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M: This is the pick I really hope to see for Arizona, because their defense is one step away from clicking, and a pass rush would do just the trick.

– Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU: Pairing Peterson up with Rogers-Cromartie, could potentially be one of the best CB tandems in the NFL in a few years. The best player on the board, must be considered at this point.

Team Needs: QB, OT, CB

2010 Rd1 pick: Dan Williams (26th pick) (Grade: C+)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Prince Amukamara (Pick #4)

#6 Pick: Julio Jones, WR, Alabama                                    Team: Cleveland

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Cleveland really wanted AJ Green to fall to them here, but honestly, I think he is too good of a talent, and few times above the sixth pick also have WR needs. Cleveland is not in a rough spot though, because I feel Jones is actually a better fit for Cleveland’s offensive schemes.

Optional Picks:

– Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn: The Browns are switching over to a 4-3 offense, where I think Fairley will fit best. He has one of the biggest upside of this draft class, and I think Holmgren takes a serious look at him here.

– Robert Quinn, DE, UNC: When all is said and done, I think Cleveland ends up picking Quinn here, since he has great upside.

Team Needs: OL, DL, WR

2010 Rd1 pick: Joe Haden (7th pick) (Grade: B)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: AJ Green (Pick #7)

#7 Pick: Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU                                    Team: San Francisco

Help-MyTeam Analysis: How lucky is Niners once again? Crabtree fell to them, now Peterson ends up falling to them! Peterson is arguably the best player in the 2011 NFL Draft, and getting him to fall to #7 would be great for the Niners, especially since it fills a huge need. With this pick, Niners secure one of the top 5 draft classes in 2011.

Optional Picks:

– Robert Quinn, DE, UNC: Here is a sleeper pick, but I think they could use another OLB outside of Willis to spread the offensive line out and create more holes. Quinn could potentially be a ProBowler 3-4 OLB.

– Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M: Von Miller has fallen this far? So Niners get the pick of two of the best players in the draft at #7 pick? This pick will definitely be considered, and could potentially even be valued more by ownership than drafting Peterson.

Team Needs: QB, CB, DL, OLB

2010 Rd1 pick: Anthony Davis (11th pick) (Grade: B)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Ryan Mallett (Pick #8)

#8 Pick: Nick Fairely, DT, Auburn                                    Team: Tennessee

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Tennessee is at an interesting spot here. I see them wanting to trade out of this spot and target someone later, while getting an extra draft pick or two, and I see multiple teams wanting to get into the top 10. If the Titans stay at #8, I think they take Fairley who has impressive upside, but has potential bust ability. If playing like he did this year, Fairley would immediately help the interior of the Titans DL.

Optional Picks:

– Jake Locker, QB, Washington: There has been some rumors linking Locker to Tennessee, as they see him as a more mature version of Vince Young, but the same type of skill sets. Lockers pro-day helped him, and I think he might go in the top 15.

– Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska: The secondary unit needs some help, and Prince Amukamara would definitely help from the beginning of the season.

Team Needs: QB, LB, CB, OL

2010 Rd1 pick: Derrick Morgan (16th pick) (Grade: C)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Janoris Jenkins (Pick #13)

#9 Pick: Tyson Smith, OT, USC                                                Team: Dallas

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Dallas could go a couple ways with this pick, and none of my 3 options would be bad picks for the Cowboys. With that being said, I think Dallas goes with the typical top 10 pick and takes the top tackle available in this draft class.

Optional Picks:

– Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska: The secondary is by far one of the worst units in Dallas, and Jerry Jones has acknowledged this, this offseason, which makes me think he could lean this way.

– JJ Watts, DE, Wisconsin: This would be a huge upgrade over their current DE, and JJ Watts has been considered by some the premiere DE on this draft and a potential top 15 pick.

Team Needs: CB, OL, DE

2010 Rd1 pick: Dez Bryant (24th pick) (Grade: A-)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Marcell Dareus (Pick #9)

#10 Pick: Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M                                    Team: Washington

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Some mock drafts have Von Miller going as high as #2, so him slipping all the way to #10, I see Washington going an odd route and getting a stud to play opposite of Orakapo.

Optional Picks:

– Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama: If they can trade down a few picks, and grad Ingram, this would be a very attractive option for Snyder.

– Jake Locker, QB, Washington: Last year, Shanahan was linked to Locker and his potential. I definitely think he will take a very close look at drafting Locker, but trading back in the first round to do so.

Team Needs: WR, OL, Defense

2010 Rd1 pick: Trent Williams (4th pick) (Grade: B)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Jake Locker (Pick #11)

#11 Pick: Robert Quinn, OLB, UNC                                    Team: Houston

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Wade Phillips is now running the Texans defense and switching them to the 3-4 defense. Getting a stud OLB will be high on his wish list, and if Robert Quinn is still on the board, it will be a great pick.

Optional Picks:

– Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska: I really don’t think they draft secondary in the first round for a second year in a row, but Prince would definitely help the unit which struggled last year.

– Aldon Smith, OLB, Missouri: A sleeper pick for a OLB would be Aldon Smith, who some GM’s believe will be the best pass rusher of the class.

Team Needs: DL, CB, Safety, OLB

2010 Rd1 pick: Kareem Jackson (20th pick) (Grade: B-)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Stephen Paea (Pick #10)

#12 Pick: Nate Solder, OT, Colorado                                    Team: Minnesota

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Some still think that Solder is better prospect at LT than Tyron Smith, so Minnesota is able to fill a big need here, even though they are unable to get one of the top2 quarterbacks.

Optional Picks:

– Jake Locker, QB, Washington: Minnesota desperately needs a quarterback, and since they also have a new coach, this is the year. Locker could be a potential pick if they fall in love with him, although I think they go a safer route at QB in the 2nd/3rd rounds.

– Corey Liuget, DT, Illinios: This player has been blasting up the draft boards since he declared early for the draft. The tape is not there, but he has the potential to be a truly dominant force at DT.

Team Needs: QB, OL, DL

2010 Rd1 pick: Chris Cook (2nd rounder, first team pick) (Grade: B)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Cam Newton (Pick #12)

#13 Pick: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska                        Team: Detroit

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Detroit is lucky here, because Amukamara is a top 10 talent yet falls to them, and is a great need this offseason. The secondary will be young, but drafting Prince will give some good cornerstones to build around.

Optional Picks:

– Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA: The Lions definitely need some help at linebacker this offseason, and one guy I see them stretching on is Akeem Ayers. He is a first round draft choice, but I think at #13 it might be a little high. With that being said, he has a great motor, can come in from day one, and high maturity to be a leader.

– Gabe Cirimi, OT, Wisconsin: Protecting Stafford should be very important to Detroit this offseason, since they spent so much money on him. I see Cirimi as being the most NFL ready tackle in the draft, and Detroit wouldn’t go wrong with this safe pick.

Team Needs: DE, CB, LB

2010 Rd1 pick: Ndamukong Suh (2nd pick) (Grade: A)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Robert Quinn (Pick #6)

#14 Pick: Corey Luiget, DT, Illinios                                    Team: St. Louis

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Luiget has been linked to St. Louis ever since most analyst figure that Julio Jones will already be off the board by the #14 pick. I could see St. Louis going after another WR, maybe a Jonathon Baldwin, but would have to trade down or would be losing a ton of value. With that being said, Corey Luiget would be a monster for the DL for St. Louis, but has bust potential.

Optional Picks:

– Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA: LB is need for St. Louis to address this offseason, and with Ayers still on the board, Spagnolo would love a ‘leader’ in his linebacker corp paired with the other ILB young stud Laurinitus.

– Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon St: Did anyone else see the NFL Combine, where Paea absolutely destroyed the competition in the bench press? He has a relentless motor, and played well against good competition in the Pac-10. Trading down and drafting Paea, I see as a safer route than drafting Luiget here.

Team Needs: WR, DL CB

2010 Rd1 pick: Sam Bradford (1st pick) (Grade: A)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Justin Blackmon (Pick #15)

#15 Pick: Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama                                    Team: Miami

Help-MyTeam Analysis: The lockout has hurt Miami’s chances of resigning both, or either, of their two free agent RB’s. Therefore, they are almost forced into drafting a RB this offseason, and are in position to get the top rated RB here. Ingram is a beast between the tackles, and can also pop out to the outside and hit the edge, all while only fumbling 3 times over his collegiate career… great number considering he treated himself like a bowling ball.

Optional Picks:

– Maukice Pouncey, OL, Florida: If Ingram off the board, then Pouncey is a no brainer here for Miami, who is scheduled to workout the Florida OL. The interior OL needs help, and Pouncey could come in day 1.

– Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas: Miami has never been sold on their QB position since Marino, and still aren’t sold currently. Trading down and stockpiling some picks, and drafting Mallett, might be upper managements solution to the QB situation. One knock on Mallett… he plays with concrete shoes. Drafting a good blocking OL would also be necessary.

Team Needs: RB, OG, QB, S

2010 Rd1 pick: Jared Odrick( 28th pick) (Grade: C-)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Mark Ingram (Pick #17)

#16 Pick: Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue                                    Team: Jacksonville

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Kerrigan seems to be on everyone’s draft board, from pick 10 through the end of the first round. He has a relentless motor, and very hard to block coming off of the edge.

Optional Picks:

– Jake Locker, QB, Washington: This is going to be a shocker to me, but I think they start to think about drafting Garrad’s future replacement, and this would allow Jacksonville the ability to let Locker sit a year or two and learn the ropes, which he needs to be successful at the next level.

– Justin Houston, LB, Georgia: Jacksonville has a way of reaching on players (i.e. Alualu last year at #10), but this pick wouldn’t be a huge reach, and would definitely help a need in their LB corp.

Team Needs: DL, Safety, LB

2010 Rd1 pick: Tyson Alualu (10th pick) (Grade: B+)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Von Miller (Pick #20)

#17 Pick: JJ Watts, DE, Wisconsin                        Team: Patriots (via, Oakland)

Help-MyTeam Analysis: JJ has been linked to the Patriots for some time now, as he has a high motor and would fill a large need for the Patriots on their DE unit. I think JJ might be a little overrated, watching tape, but I think he still goes somewhere between 15-25.

Optional Picks:

– Gabe Cirimi, OT, Wisconsin: Patriots also need help at OT, and I think Cirimi is the most NFL ready of the bunch, giving Belichick a true mauler to work with.

– Aldon Smith, OLB, Missouri: Here is a talented OLB with raw skills that needs some coaching… who better than Belichick to bring the best out of a linebacker?

Team Needs: OT, DL, LB, RB

2010 Rd1 pick: Devin McCoutry (27th pick) (Grade: B+)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Ryan Kerrigan (Pick #16)

#18 Pick: Cameron Jordan, DE, Cal                                    Team: San Diego

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Jordan I see as being the premiere 3-4, 5 technique DE. With Luis Castillo more than likely getting cut, an upgrade on the DL unit would be a huge help.

Optional Picks:

– Gabe Cirimi, OT, Wisconsin: I am leaning towards liking this pick a little more for San Diego, since they really need an upgrade at RT and have for awhile now. Cirimi could come in from day one and help a struggling run offense.

– Muhammad Wilkerson, DE, Temple: The pure raw talent of this player will give AJ Smith notice, but I think he is still a reach at this point, and AJ might not pull the trigger on a small school talent, like English, this early.

Team Needs: DE, RT, S, OLB

2010 Rd1 pick: Ryan Mathews (12th pick) (Grade: C+)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Gabe Cirimi (Pick #21)

#19 Pick: Maukice Pouncey, OL, Florida                        Team: NY Giants

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Pouncey would love to go to Dallas I hear, but unless Dallas trades back, they will never take a “C” at the 9th overall pick, never. So who do the Giants target… Pouncey who will be highly looked at from #20 on, so getting him here will be wise, especially for the Giants who need lots of help on the interior of their offensive line.

Optional Picks:

– Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College: Like I said, the offensive line is not very good for this unit, and getting Castonzo might have even more value at this point in the first round.

– Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA: The linebacker unit is getting somewhat old, and some valued youth should be brought in. Ayers can play a multitude of different spots in the LB unit, and will be a leader for years to come.

Team Needs:

2010 Rd1 pick:

2011 Rd1 previous pick:

#20 Pick: Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA                                    Team: Tampa Bay

Help-MyTeam Analysis: I see DE being the biggest need for Tampa Bay, but with Akeem Ayers sitting here at this spot, I think they take him with the 20th spot. Akeem could play multiple spots on their linebacker corp and would bring great intangibles.

Optional Picks:

– Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio St: Heyward has taken some draft stock hits this offseason due to the fact that his motor is sometimes turned on during film tape. With that being said, if he can go 100% all the time, he is a freak of nature, and potentially one of the best DE in the draft. Huge body, long arms…Julius Peppers anyone?

– Justin Houston, OLB, Georgia: Although I am a fan of Akeem Ayers, I think Houston is just downright nasty of a LB, with a huge body and down speed running after the tackle. He is much more physical specimen than Ayers and think could be the pick here.

Team Needs: DE, OL, LB

2010 Rd1 pick: Gerald McCoy (3rd pick) (Draft: A-)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Allen Bailey (Pick #19)

#21 Pick: Aldon Smith, OLB, Missouri                                    Team: Kansas City

Help-MyTeam Analysis: The freakish ability of this player surely will excite the coaching staff of the Chiefs, especially if they are able to grab him at this point. Playing opposite of Tamba Hali would give the Chiefs an impressive rush defense.

Optional Picks:

– Phil Taylor, NT, Baylor: This NT has been linked to Kansas City for some time now, and everyone knows that a 3-4 teams wants, and needs, a dominant NT, hence stretching here for this prospect, who I have given a second or maybe even third round grade.

– Gabe Cirimi, OT, Wisconsin: Pioli knows how to build a franchise and that is from both the offensive and defensive lines. For the last couple years they have paid attention to the DL, but now I think they pick up here a NFL ready offensive lineman.

Team Needs: OLB, Center, WR

2010 Rd1 pick: Eric Berry (5th pick) (Grade: A-)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Akeem Ayers (Pick #23)

#22 Pick: Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College                        Team: Indianapolis

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Protecting Peyton Manning must be a priority of the Colts, especially as his age gets older. Castonzo is a sound technician, and moves well on his feet sliding in pass protection.

Optional Picks:

– Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon St: Getting some help on the defensive line should be important for the Colts this offseason. Paea destroyed the bench press at the combine and as seen as being very strong and an unrelentless motor. He will take two blockers therefore freeing up some pass rush ability.

– Randall Cobb, WR, Kentucky: Cobb has been rising up some draft boards as the third best WR option, which is why I have him here. I think they would go a different route at WR and get someone a little bigger like maybe a Hankerson.

Team Needs: OL, WR, DL

2010 Rd1 pick: Jerry Hughes (31st pick) (Grade: C-)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Nate Solder (Pick #18)

#23 Pick: Gabe Cirimi, OT, Wisconsin                                    Team: Philadelphia

Help-MyTeam Analysis: This is a very typical Andy Reid style pick, taking a conservative, hard working blue-collar player on either the defensive or offensive line. In this case, they fill a large need, and bring in a player that can play from day one, and play really mean.

Optional Picks:

– Justin Houston, LB, Georgia: Philly also needs some help at LB, and I think Houston can be a good 4-3 linebacker, especially if he is put into the middle spot.

– Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon St: Andy Reid loves to improve his defensive line, and at this point Paea, would be a great pick up.

Team Needs: OL, LB, DL

2010 Rd1 pick: Brandon Graham (13th pick) (Grade: B+)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Corey Luiget (Pick #27)

#24 Pick: Muhammad Wilkerson, DE, Temple                        Team: New Orleans

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Some analyst have Wilkerson going in the top 15 due to his upside, but I have been a little more conservative with this prospect. If Wilkerson gets all the way to the Saints, he will def have the DE unit, and with them bringing in Shaun Rogers in the offseason, this unit could be top5 next year.

Optional Picks:

– Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon St: This would be a safer bet for the Saints, as I see Paea having less bust potential. Still I think Wilkerson fits more into their scheme, and the Saints become excited about the high ceiling of this player.

– Rahim Moore, S, UCLA: Patrick Robinson is not a safety and they really need to draft one this offseason. If they get Rahim Moore here, they have snagged the best safety in a very weak safety class.

Team Needs: L, Safety, WR

2010 Rd1 pick: Patrick Robinson (32nd pick) (Grade: B-)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Drake Nevis (Pick #30)

#25 Pick: Jake Locker, QB, Washington                        Team: Seattle

Help-MyTeam Analysis: If there was no holdout and offseason free agency was in play, I think Seattle gets one of the tope FA’s at QB, but since that is not an option, they are locked into picking Locker, no pun intended. Who knows maybe Carroll can work on a system that will be good for Locker. It will be great for selling tickets for Seattle.

Optional Picks:

– Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College: Carroll has been said that he was disappointed to be locked into taking an OT at #6 last years draft. I don’t think he is completely sold on Okung, and could possibly take another OT.

– Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa: The DE’s need an upgrade for Seattle, esp with some free agency issues on the defensive line. Bringing in Clayborn would help the rotation.

Team Needs: DL, OL, QB

2010 Rd1 pick: Russell Okung (6th pick) (Grade: B)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Adrian Clayborn (#14)

#26 Pick: Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado                        Team: Baltimore

Help-MyTeam Analysis: The Ravens desperately need help in the secondary and I think they look here in the first round. Some might be turned off by Smith’s off the field immaturity, but when you have Ray Lewis in house, it isn’t so much an issue.

Optional Picks:

– Rahim Moore, S, UCLA: Taking Rahim Moore here would give the Ravens a player to learn from Ed Reed and eventually take over the HOF’ers spot.

– Justin Houston, OLB, Georgia: Houston reminds me a lot of Raven LB’s which is why I think he gets a good look here.

Team Needs: CB, Safety, WR

2010 Rd1 pick: Sergio Kindle (2nd rounder, first team pick) (Grade: B)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Rahim Moore (Pick #29)

#27 Pick: Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame                        Team: Atlanta

Help-MyTeam Analysis: Once again, Rudolph is linked to the Falcons solely for the purpose that this will be Gonzalez’s last year probably before retiring. Finding someone to take over for him, will be crucial to Matt Ryan’s productivity. Although Kyle has some injury concerns, he is still a late first round graded prospect.

Optional Picks:

– Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa: Getting Clayborn to play opposite of Abraham, would give the Falcons a much better pass rush.

– Brandon Harris, CB, Miami: Harris is one of the true shut down corners of this years draft and has great coverage ability. This would be a great draft for Atlanta.

Team Needs: OL, TE, CB

2010 Rd1 pick: Sean Witherspoon (19th pick) (Grade: B-)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Kyle Rudolph (Pick #32)

#28 Pick: Brooks Reed, OLB, Arizona                        Team: New England

Help-MyTeam Analysis: This is an interesting pick here for me, because I really wanted to pick a running back. But I think Reed will spark Belichicks attention and think that he can truly transition the player into an OLB with his hand off the ground.

Optional Picks:

– Cameron Hayward, DE, Ohio St: Hayward should be taken here, since they need a DE, but they already picked up JJ Watts, and I don’t see them addressing the position with both first round picks.

– Mikel Leshoure, RB, Illinios: Leshoure to be is the second rated RB, but very closely rated to Ryan Williams, so I see them both getting a look here. Patriots would love to get a true, every down back.

Team Needs: CB, DL, LB, RB

2010 Rd1 pick: Devin McCoutry (27th pick) (Grade: B+)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Cameron Hayward (Pick #31)

#29 Pick: Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon St                        Team: Chicago

Help-MyTeam Analysis: The interior of the Bears defensive line needs some help, and having Paea taking two blockers, next to Peppers, sounds unreal!

Optional Picks:

– Leonard Hankerson, WR, Miami: Cutler really needs a big body possession receiver like he had in Brandon Marshall. I think Hankerson or Baldwin get a look here, but I really think the first round is a big stretch for both.

– Derek Sherrod, OT, Miss: The offensive line is down right horrible in Chicago, and Cutler always seems to be getting sacked. Make sure to keep your QB upright, and I think getting an OT would be the best bet here.

Team Needs: WR, OL, DL

2010 Rd1 pick: Major Wright (3rd rounder, first team pick) (Grade: B)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Anthony Castonzo (Pick #25)

#30 Pick: Rahim Moore, S, UCLA                        Team: NY JETS

Help-MyTeam Analysis: We all saw how much Ryan loves his secondary and how much it hurt when the first string safety went out at the end of the season. Jets will address this by snagging the top rated safety in the draft early on.

Optional Picks:

– Justin Houston, OLB, Georgia: The outside linebacker position is getting old, and in flux, and needs some youth. Houston would bring a very physical presence for the unit.

– Randall Cobb, WR, Kentucky: So many of the Jets WR’s this offseason have free agency issues, or such, and getting a WR would be a smart bet. I think this would be a stretch to take Cobb in the first round though, even though I think someone will.

Team Needs: WR, OLB, FS

2010 Rd1 pick: Kyle Wilson (29th pick) (Grade: C)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Julio Jones (Pick #28)

#31 Pick: Aaron Williams, CB, Texas                        Team: Pittsburg

Help-MyTeam Analysis: This is the type of player that fits a team perfectly. Pittsburg needs a CB badly, but doesn’t put much value on drafting them early. This year is different, as they reach on Aaron Williams, since he is a big physical corner that can play well in Pitts scheme.

Optional Picks:

– Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa: The defensive line need some help, and getting the falling Clayborn would be a smart decision. Some are worried about Clayborn’s small arms and being a true DE, but I think he could excel with this unit.

– Cameron Hayward, DE, Ohio St: Another interesting DE prospect who is still on the board is Hayward, who I think can be a dominant DE, if given enough time to get situated.

Team Needs: DE, OT, CB

2010 Rd1 pick: Maurkice Pouncey (18th pick) (Grade: B+)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Cameron Jordan (Pick #26)

#32 Pick: Mikel Leshoure, RB, Illinois                        Team: Green Bay

Help-MyTeam Analysis: And a second RB gets taken finally in the first round… Green Bay hurt last year from the inability to keep their RB’s healthy and on the field. They obviously were good enough to win the Super Bowl, but I still think they should address RB and get an every down back. Another pick here for RB could be Ryan Williams out of Virginia Tech.

Optional Picks:

– Brandon Harris, CB, Miami: Harris is a true shut down, cover corner, and I think should get some decent looks at the end of the first round, including Green Bay.

– Justin Houston, OLB, Georgia: Could you see Houston played opposite if Mathews?! This could be a very amazing pass rushing duo for years to come.

Team Needs: CB, OL, RB

2010 Rd1 pick: Bryan Buluga (23rd pick) (Grade: B)

2011 Rd1 previous pick: Mike Pouncey (Pick #22)

NFL Team 2011 Offseason Draft Needs

We all want to know what our NFL team needs in the upcoming offseason after the 2010 season. Here is a brief breakdown of the top three most important positions each team needs to address, due to injuries, free agency, and simple lack of current production.

AFC

West

Denver

1) Defensive Line (Bad trades and aging players have the defensive line as probably the worst unit in Denver. When running the 3-4, it is very important to be stout up front, so a replacement at NT or DE would be wise, especially in a division with stud runners (McFadden, Charles, Mathews))

2) OLB (How badly can one injury hurt a team? Well we saw when Dumervil went down with a torn pectoral muscle this year, therefore negating his 17.5 sacks recorded in 2009 season. Denver needs pass rush help)

3) CB (Champ Bailey is a Free Agent and expressed distaste for all the change in Denver lately. He will also be expensive as he is still playing at a very high level, so he will probably leave. Also, Perrish Cox was convicted of Assault, so should be facing some jail time)

Kansas City CHIEFS

1) LB (Getting a partner for Tamba Hali would only increase his sack totals, since he going to be getting paid big time this offseason after a phenomenal year. Also Vrabel will be leaving due free agency. The ILBs are also needing a partner next to Derrick Johnson)

2) DL (NT could be one of the easiest positions to find quality players later in the 2011 NFL draft, so the Chiefs look to upgrade the position)

3) WR (Bowe can be a superstar, but who is opposite of him? The Chiefs need a legit #2 receiver)

Oakland RAIDERS

1) QB (Is Jason Campbell the answer? No. An interesting experiment when they needed to get rid of Jamarcus Russell, but the Raiders need a franchise signal caller if they are going to take the next step in this division)

2) LB (McClain is good, but getting some more rushing OLB would be smart for this good defensive unit. Especially in a division with Philips Rivers, getting to the QB is important)

3) OL (The inside of the OL has been an interesting carousel this year of trying to find the right combination. Drafting another young interior lineman would help continue to find a good balance, for a good run game)

San Diego CHARGERS

1) DE (Cesaire is a free agent this year, and drafting a replacement would greatly help the front lines pass rushing ability, and continue to help Garay progress into a pro-bowler)

2) LB (English has not panned out, and a rushing OLB would be a good idea to draft. Also, all the Chargers ILB are free agents; some will be resigned, but another draft pick would increase the most important position in the 3-4 defense)

3) OL (Clarey is up in free agency this season, and should not be resigned after a horrible season. Drafting a stud RT, to pair with McNeil protecting Rivers, would be smart)

South

Houston TEXANS

1) DB (Kareem Jackson is coming along fine, but finding another corner opposite of him to fill the void Dunta Robinson left will be important. Both safety positions need to be considered also)

2) DL (The Texans were interested in Schobel this offseason, so DE is obviously a concern, and DT could use an upgrade also because at this point Okoye seem like a bust)

3) WR (Finding someone to line up opposite of Andre Johnson, and considering TE Owen Daniels is a Free Agent, the Texans need to keep some offensive weapons around Schaub)

Indianapolis COLTS

1) OL (Ugoh is NOT the answer at LT, and Polian will almost 100% definitely draft a LT to protect his Golden Goose Peyton Manning. The Guards also need an upgrade)

2) DT (If the Colts don’t draft OL first, they will look to upgrade their DL, namely getting a young, smaller, quick DT to get into the opposing backfield)

3) LB (Having a major shake up shake up in the linebacking corp would not be shocking this offseason and they really haven’t been able to rush the QB or stop the run)

Jacksonville JAGUARS

1) DE (Kampman has had back to back year ending ACL injuries on opposite knees. Will he be back? And if so, will he be dominant? Drafting a young DE, wouldn’t hurt this defense any)

2) Safety (Both safety positions remain the biggest glaring need on a defensive unit that is not very good. In a dvision with Peyton Manning, having deep coverage is important, so drafting some safety help this offseason would be smart)

3) LB (Few free agents could be leaving on this unit, so drafting some depth would be smart for a defense that is lacking few stand out playmakers)

Tennessee TITANS

1) QB (Will Vince Young be back? This will depend on if Jeff Fischer is retained as the head coach; if he is back, expect him to draft a new QB)

2) OL (Chris Johnson has shown he is mortal this year, and his yardage has taken a huge hit, but this is mainly because the guards are not very good at run blocking this year. Upgrading the offensive line would help one the production of one of the most explosive players in the NFL)

3) LB (ILB is in desperate need of attention this offseason, and OLB could also use some upgrades. Drafting a few linebackers will definitely be in the Titans draft plans)

East

Buffalo BILLS

1) OLB (Switching to the 3-4 defense has not been easy for Buffalo. Gailey has spoken out about Maybin not being able to handle being an OLB, and Merriman was just resigned for another year and who knows how he will come back after so much time off from injury)

2) CB (McKelvin hasn’t lived up to his draft spot, and Drayton Florence is a Free Agent this year, so getting a CB would be a good idea, especially when having to play Tom Brady twice a year)

3) QB (Most people around the league don’t think that Fitzgerald can be the guy making the calls, but word is that he will get 2011 to make his case. If the Bills can draft someone better, they should consider it though, at least to bring in competition)

Miami DOLPHINS

1) RB (Both Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are Free Agents this offseason and both wont be back, if either, so drafting a premier RB is important this offseason)

2) QB (Chad Henne has struggled and struggled, so finally they go in a different route and draft a new QB, unless they can draft for Kolb or similar young stud QB around the league)

3) OL (Ignonito is a good left Guard, but is a Free Agent, and if back will be moving to center. Therefore the inside of the line could use an upgrade. Also, a stud RT opposite of Jake Long will help the new QB stand upright)

New England PATRIOTS

1) OLB (The Patriots desperately need youth that can perform and rush the passer on a regular basis. Tully Banta-Cane is the only true starter on the roster, and this is one of the most difficult positions to fill in the 3-4 defense, so drafting here is necessary)

2) DE (This is a strong position to contain the run in the 3-4 defense, and no one has been special opposite of Ty Warren, so Belichick continues to upgrade his defense in this area)

3) OL (Light will be an old free agent, and knowing the Patriots, probably not resigned. Also Mankins had contract dispute all offseason and help out half a season, he too will probably be walking this offseason)

New York JETS

1) WR (Holmes, Smith, and Edwards are all Free Agents this offseason, and although one or two might get resigned, drafting a stud WR would be good for Sanchez, especially in the Red Zone where he has struggled. Finally Sanchez can find a WR that can hold onto the ball)

2) Safety (Injuries have shown how important the safety position is to Rex Ryan’s defense. Drafting depth on this position, or possibly a future blue-chip starter is a real possibility this offseason)

3) OLB (Jason Taylor has been interestingly good in the Jets defense this year, but he will be a Free Agent, and is noticeably losing a step with his quickness off the edge. Even if they retain him for another year, drafting youth is important for the OLB position in the 3-4 defense)

North

Baltimore RAVENS

1) DB (So much needs to be done in the secondary to get the defense back to dominance that it is use to. Corners need to be addressed first. Next the safety position needs depth behind Ed Reed who is aging, and Landry who is a Free Agent)

2) LB (Ray Lewis is finally starting to show his age, and last years 2nd round in the 2010 draft Sergo Kindle might not ever return to the team, so getting youth in this unit is important, since it has always been the strong suit for the Ravens)

3) OL (So much needs to be done here also, it is hard to pin point where to start. But a RT, opposite of Oher should be first and foremost. Center Matt Birk is not as young as he use to be and some guards are Free Agents, so getting depth on the inside of the line could be addressed later in the draft)

Cincinnati BENGALS

1) DE (Dunlap has been decent as of lately, but Odom has been injury plagued, so getting a stud pass-rushing DE would be smart for the Bengals defense)

2) Safety (Sorry Roy Williams, your days are over and retirement is near. Upgrading the strong safety position, would allow the two young stud corners to continue to excel)

3) OL (Benson is a great RB and likely back again next year, so the guard position must be upgraded. The Bengals need a run-blocking Guard, and should be addressed in the first couple rounds)

Cleveland BROWNS

1) WR (No one has stepped up at the WR position for the Browns, drafting Colt McCoy a star receiver should be Holmgren’s first plan of attack this offseason)

2) DE (The defensive line is not very strong, but the weakest position is DE. Getting a stout run stuffing DE to contain the edge will be important for this defense to take the next step)

3) LB (Both ILB, and OLB should be addressed in the draft, since the Browns we unable to pass rush effectively, or run defense. Linebackers are one of the most important position in the 3-4, so drafting a couple LB’s will be smart)

Pittsburg STEELERS

1) OL (The division is won is the trenches, and the tackles have been hurt by injuries this year. I think they try to draft depth here in the draft, and also the guard position that has Free Agency concerns)

2) CB (This is a pretty solid unit also, but could use some depth to upgrade their nickel and dime packages, also will help upgrade special teams)

3) NT (There is good depth in the 2011 draft class for NTs, and getting one to groom behind the incumbent would be a great idea for this great defensive line unit)

NFC

West

Arizona CARDINALS

1) OLB (Joey Porter is old, and not much depth on the rushing OLB category. Upgrading this unit should be the first priority this season, as their defense was horrendous)

2) OT (Levi Brown is alright, but would be great at RT, where the Cardinals are really hurting, and then they could draft a true LT. Also, Alan Faneca is probably retiring this offseason, and upgrading into a good run-blocking Guard would greatly help the Cardinals run game)

3) QB (Skelton and Max Hall are interesting prospects, but neither is really graded as a franchise signal caller.  If they are able to get one of the prime time QB’s in the draft, they will have to consider it)

San Francisco 49ers

1) QB (Again, the Niners will try to get a franchise signal caller. Alex Smith was given a second and third chance, and will probably be kept on as the backup, but drafting a new signal caller will be the top priority of the new head coach for the 2011 season)

2) CB (The corners on the roster are declining and will becoming increasingly expensive, expect at least one to be dropped this offseason, so drafting a shutdown corner will be important for the Niners)

3) OLB (Manny Lawson is coming into a contract year, and someone will probably be offering him big money to walk away from San Francisco. Getting a speed rushing OLB would continue to upgrade the defense

Seattle SEAHAWKS

1) DL (Getting upgrades at DE and DT is important this offseason and for the Seahawks to make the next step)

2) Safety (Free Safety is now locked down with a great pick last year with Earl Thomas, so getting a strong safety will completely lock down this good secondary)

3) OL (LT Okung has struggled, but shown promise, but RT Locklear is a free agent and probably will be leaving Seattle, so drafting a new RT is necessary)

St. Louis RAMS

1) WR (As we saw in the final game of the 2010 season, Bradford had no one that he could throw to that was reliable, and was the changing factor in the game, AND making the playoffs! Getting Bradford a #1 receiver is important this offseason)

2) OLB (Getting some speed rushers is very important this offseason, and will be addressed early, since the head coach is a defensive minded coach, and it being the biggest area of concern on defense)

3) OL (Although the young tackles have not been great, the guards are even worse, and Goldberg is a Free Agent so probably not back. Finding a young OL to step in early is hard, so drafting this position early might be important to keep their prize QB protected)

South

Atlanta FALCONS

1) TE (Tony Gonzalez has been a great story coming to Atlanta, and might end up getting the Super Bowl he is trying for. Either way, retirement is a serious issue, and Matt Ryan needs to make sure he has offensive weapons around him. If Tony comes back, Atlanta tries to draft a WR to pair with Roddey White)

2) DL (Abraham played great this year, but more youth needs to be added to the front line. There are some great DL players in this draft that can be had in later rounds where the Falcons will probably target this player)

3) OLB (Peterson isn’t getting any younger, and this unit could use some more speed in the pass rush. Getting youth in the draft is a good way to do this, to start along side Weatherspoon for years to come)

Carolina PANTHERS

1) DL (DT is more of a need than DE, since they have drafted edge rushers lately. But, with that being said, the 3 young DE’s have not put many sacks on the board, and defensive pass rush is greatly needed in this division)

2) WR (Steve Smith has never gotten a partner opposite of him that has allowed him to shine. This might be the year, if they are able to resign Smith off of his Free Agent offseason, they should draft a stud WR)

3) OLB (This is not a huge need, but since DE/DT were grouped together I can add one more area, and OLB is it. Thomas Davis is becoming a Free Agent, and some youth/speed would be an upgrade, next to Beason)

New Orleans SAINTS

1) DL (Upgrading the DT’s would help this unit. Stopping the run is very important for the defense to upgrade this offseason. DE’s are set at with starters, but Alex Brown could use some spelling, and an eventual replacement)

2) OLB (Youth is needed in this unit, since rushing the passer is very important for the Defensive Coordinators blitz schemes. Getting depth would help a ton)

3) Safety (Roman Harper is a stud here, and Jenkins could transition full time to Strong Safety, but I still think the  Saints target a safety in this 2011 draft)

Tampa Bay  BUCCANEERS

1) DE (McCoy looks like a stud for years to come in the center of Tampa Bay’s line, but getting him a young partner next to him would do wonders for this defense)

2) LB (Hopefully Ruud will be resigned in Free Agency this offseason, but drafting an OLB will definitely be important to continue to improve the defense)

3) WR (Mike Williams has been a nice surprise, and Arrelious Benn shows promise, but drafting another big time WR will be important to keep weapons around a young, developing QB)

East

Dallas COWBOYS

1) DB (The corner position and safety position need to be addressed this offseason and early, both are very bad)

2) DL (Marcus Spears is a Free Agent and might not be back, upgrading the defensive line will continue to help Ware be a dominant force rushing the passer)

3) OL (Free has shown he can be the LT in Dallas, but upgrading the RT will be important this offseason. Along with RT, the guard position could use some depth and competition to improve)

New York GIANTS

1) LB (Coughlins favorite position to draft, and they could use to get some more LB to help on defense, especially if they can finally find one that is a full time starter, not just rotational player)

2) DL (Cofield played really well this year, and is a Free Agent, so probably will be getting paid really well to walk away from the Giants. Upgrading the inside of the DL would greatly help stop the run)

3) OL (Injuries totally decimated the Giants this season, so the head office will see some need to draft some youth onto the roster, especially with a few free agency picks)

Philadelphia EAGLES

1) OL (Almost every positon on the OL could be upgraded this offseason. Guard and Center will be a major focus this offseason to protect Vick and his scrambling tendencies. Also, in the later rounds, the tackle position could use some depth)

2) DL (Another position that Andy Reid really likes to upgrade in the draft, and using the 4 man front, getting young guys to collapse the pocket will be important for the defense)

3) CB (Drafting at the end of the first round, is the perfect place to find a great #2 CB, since Ellis Hobbs could be leaving in Free Agency)

Washington REDSKINS

1) QB (Donovan McNabb will be traded this offseason and Shanahan will bring in a QB he feels he can groom)

2) LB (McIntosh will be a free agent, and should be playing in a 4-3, so will probably be moving to a new team. Look for the Redskins to draft a few LBs if they continue with the 3-4 defense)

3) OL (Trent Williams will be a good LT for the future, but upgrading the rest of the offensive line will help the Redskins a lot, because Donovan was not so good due to the line around him)

North

Chicago BEARS

1) WR (Cutler is really starting to thrive in Martz throwing offense. The problem is that Chicago as no true #1 WR. Drafting this for Cutler will greatly increase his effectiveness)

2) OL (LT is still a position that hasn’t been solved, as all prospects are now penciled for other positions along the line. Also, the guards could use more depth to see more competition in the offseason. Cutler must not be sacked so much next year)

3) DL (Getting a premiere inside DT in this years draft would be smart since Tommie Harris has totally regressed, and a presence needs to be found now that Julius Peppers is looking great)

Detroit LIONS

1) CB (Corner is a huge need for the Lions this offseason and they couldn’t find one last offseason. It is such a big need, they might use two early picks on the position, and with possibly the second being a larger DB who can split time at Strong Safety)

2) LB (Peterson at OLB is getting old, and rushers need their speed so drafting some youth would help. Also, ILB DeVry is good, but would be a better backup, so upgrading the inside wouldn’t hurt this unit)

3) OL (Backus is getting old, and should move inside to guard where the Lions line needs help, and then they can draft a new, young LT to protect their expensive QB Stafford)

Green Bay PACKERS

1) RB (The Packers were really hurt this year, when their RBs went down with season ending injuries. Drafting a young RB, will help the rotation, and keep a stud on the field)

2) OL (Buluga should be moving to LT, although he isn’t looking great. Guard positions and Center could also both be upgraded in the draft as they are both weakness due to upcoming free agency)

3) OLB (Getting another blue-chip rushing OLB opposite of Mathews, would continue his dominance of opposing QBs. The key to 3-4 defenses is having plenty of quick players rushing off the edge)

Minnesota VIKINGS

1) QB (Favre is finally done, and now that Frazier is the head coach for 2011, he will try to draft a franchise signal caller, if not, they look for one in free agency)

2) OLB (Both starting OLBs are Free Agents this offseason, this position must be addressed in the staff because both probably wont be able to be resigned)

3) Safety (This was a huge need going into the 2010 draft and wasn’t addressed, the Vikings must draft a better safety this year)

2011 NFL Mock Draft v.3

Filed under: 2011, Mock Draft, NFL — Kelso @ 1:20 PM

2011 NFL MOCK DRAFT v.3

#1 Pick: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford Team: Carolina
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Here is the dilemma, the first pick has to be Andrew Luck, and yet Carolina picked Clausen in the second round last year. It would be one thing if Clausen has really struggled, but I think with time, he can be a good full time quarterback. He needs offensive options though to continue progressing. With all that being said Andrew Luck looks ready to play from Day 1 in the NFL, and that is hard to pass on.
Optional Picks:
– Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn (Interesting pick, but Fairley is a game changer, and would open up so many holes for the linebackers of Carolina to reek havoc on QBs more, he cannot be overlooked);
– AJ Green, WR, Georgia (Like I said, Clausen isn’t horrible. If they trade out of the first spot to someone who really wants Luck, then they should target AJ Green. Who knows if Steve Smith will even be around next year, and he is really been their only option for years now)
Team Needs: QB, WR, DL
2010 Rd1 pick: Jimmy Clausen (2nd rounder, first team pick) (Grade: C)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Andrew Luck (Pick #1)

#2 Pick: Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU Team: Denver
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Denver keeps rising up the draft ranking, and their pick becomes more and more interesting. With desperate need on defense, I think they target this spot. Defensive line would be an interesting pick at this point, so Fairley should get a look, but with Parrish Cox probably going to jail, CB is high on their draft needs, and Peterson seems a good fit with such big receivers in the AFC West.
Optional Picks:
– Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn (The defensive line in Denver is horrible, and I think bringing in Jamaal Williams has not worked. Getting Fairley would be a very attractive idea, since he literally could play all 3 spots on their defensive line next year);
– Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson (I do not think this is going to be the pick, but after the combine, I think Bowers take the step above Fairley. The problem here is Bowers really isn’t a good fit in a 3-4 scheme, because he is a little too small to be a power DE, or a rushing/covering OLB. With that being said, he is impressive)
Team Needs: DL, OL, CB
2010 Rd1 pick: Demaryius Thomas (22nd pick) (Grade: B-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Marcell Dareus (Pick #6)

#3 Pick: Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson Team: Cincinnati
Help-MyTeam Analysis: The pass rush of the Bengals defensive line is horrible this year and cannot get to the opposing teams quarterback, getting Bowers would instantly help to fix this. He is a beast and is so big and fast that he can totally overpower offensive linemen. He would be the smart pick here, even though fans will be calling for Carson Palmer’s blood.
Optional Picks:
– Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford (Here is the first team I think could be a serious player to trade up into the first spot for Andrew Luck. With Carson Palmer earning over $12million next year, I think they are business smart and part ways);
– AJ Green, WR, Georgia (OchoCinco is not getting any younger, and T.O. just went under the knife for knee surgery. Getting AJ Green would be a smart idea and continue to improve the offense)
Team Needs: DE, OL, QB
2010 Rd1 pick: Jermaine Gresham (21st pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Da’Quan Bowers (Pick #2)

#4 Pick: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska Team: Arizona
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Here is another pick that could go a few different routes. The Cardinals desperately need an OLB, but at #4 it is way too high to get any that are in the 2011 draft. I think the Cardinals will end up getting one of the FA quarterbacks in the offseason (i.e. Donovan McNabb), so they go a different route. With Peterson off the board, Arizona jumps to get the other top corner.
Optional Picks:
– AJ Green, WR, Georgia (This pick wont be popular or understood right away with a lot of people, but it would help Arizona. Fitzgerald has reported how much he misses having Boldin opposite of him, and getting someone as the #2 would be smart for the offense. Think of Indy, they do everything to help Peyton offense succeed… In this offense, how can they help Fitz succeed? AJ Green);
– Nick Fairley, DL, Auburn (The Cardinals really don’t want to pick a defensive lineman in the first round, but if they cant get their other options, taking the best player available would be Fairley)
– Quarterback (I’ll address this now, because my best friend is a Cardinal fan… Unless they can make a play on Andrew Luck, I see them sticking with who they have now, and getting a FA quarterback (i.e. Donovan McNabb). Donovan would be a good fit here in the desert, since he already has training facilities and travels here often)
Team Needs: QB, OT, CB
2010 Rd1 pick: Dan Williams (26th pick) (Grade: C+)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Ryan Mallett (Pick #5)

#5 Pick: Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn Team: Buffalo
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Lucky, lucky Buffalo, and Im not really sure why Im even saying that. But, they keep winning, and they really need to snag either Andrew Luck or Nick Fairley. I really see Fairley in the Top 3 and Luck number 1, so getting Fairley here at #5 would be very lucky indeed. Fairley could work in a 4-3 or 3-4, so the attractiveness of him is huge.
Optional Picks:
– Cam Newton, QB, Auburn (With Andrew Luck off the board, I see Buffalo still thinking about a quarterback of the future, and Cam Newton is flying up the draft boards)
– AJ Green, WR, Georgia (Some people think that Buffalo could use to draft a WR this year, and although they probably shouldn’t take one with this pick, AJ Green will be tempting to all… and look what they did last year… CJ Spiller)
Team Needs: QB, OL, DL
2010 Rd1 pick: C.J. Spiller (9th pick) (Grade: A-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Nick Fairley (Pick #3)

#6 Pick: Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina Team: Detroit
Help-MyTeam Analysis: VanBosch is not getting any younger, and getting some talent opposite of him, and outside of Suh would make this defensive line very, very impressive. The thing is, Detroit really needs a corner with this first pick, but the top two are already off the board.
Optional Picks:
– Cornerback (They must trade up to secure one of the top Corners in the draft, unless they fall in love with Janoris Jenkins, but at #6 it is way to high for him);
– Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M (Getting a new OLB would be a good idea. The problem with this pick, is they are in the middle ground of the top 10 picks, and not really any good value here)
Team Needs: DE, CB, Safety
2010 Rd1 pick: Ndamukong Suh (2nd pick) (Grade: A)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Patrick Peterson (Pick #4)

#7 Pick: AJ Green, WR, Georgia Team: Cleveland
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Colt McCoy never impressed Holmgren in the offseason, but once he started playing he is looking like the answer to the QB answer in Cleveland. How do you help a new quarterback? Draft him the best WR since Megatron entered the draft. AJ Green should go top 5, possible top 3, but ends up dropping to Cleveland.
Optional Picks:
– Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma St (Blackmon has come from nowhere this year, and should be declaring for the 2011 NFL Draft once some smart people talk to him. If Holmgren doesn’t fall in love with AJ Green, he takes a real look at Blackmon);
– Marcell Dareus, DL, Alabama (Shaun Rogers is coming into a contract year, and the NT is the most important function of the 3-4 defense. Finding a successor would be smart and Dareus is a big, big man)
Team Needs: OL, DL, WR
2010 Rd1 pick: Joe Haden (7th pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: AJ Green (Pick #10)

#8 Pick: Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas Team: San Francisco
Help-MyTeam Analysis: San Francisco should be firing Mike Singletary any day now. And you know what that means… a new quarterback. Cam Newton might be attractive but I think the Niners shy away from a mobile quarterback and go for more of a pocket passer.
Optional Picks:
– Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M (Manny Lawson is coming into a contract year and I see someone, not the 49ers, giving him some really big money. I think Von Miller would be a perfect pick for San Franciso, the only problem is, that the value of Von Miller at this high is just not there);
– Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama (Again, another secondary pick that is driven by money and a contract year. Franklin was franchise tagged last year, so this year they need to pay him long term or let someone give him his killer contract. Getting Dareus would be an impressive value pick here)
Team Needs: QB, CB, DL, OLB
2010 Rd1 pick: Anthony Davis (11th pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Jake Locker (Pick #7)

#9 Pick: Marcell Dareus, DL, Alabama Team: Dallas
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Olshansky is has not been a good this year at DE, so this would be a huge need for Dallas to fill. Dareus will be a stuff on their defensive line for years to come, and help Ware get to the quarterback more.
Optional Picks:
– Janoris Jenkins, CB, Florida (A shut down corner is needed in this draft because the pass defense in Dallas is horrible. Could they take him here? I highly doubt Jenkins goes in the top 10, but I think they could definitely trade out of the top 10 and grab this guy);
– Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M (Two reasons why I pick this, having someone opposite of Ware would only increase his potential, and Jerry Jones loves Texas boys, and Von Miller is loved in Texas. Fills a semi-need, but they should not go with this area in the first round)
Team Needs: CB, OL, DE
2010 Rd1 pick: Dez Bryant (24th pick) (Grade: A-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Prince Amukamara (Pick #8)

#10 Pick: Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon St Team: Houston
Help-MyTeam Analysis: The defensive line should be improved this year, and Paea would be so impressive here that it isn’t even funny. Controlling part of the interior line, next to Williams would make the defense very impressive.
Optional Picks:
– Janoris Jenkins, CB, Florida (Getting a corner across from Jackson would be the second best way to get this defense better. Like I said earlier, taking Jenkins in the top 10 would be a stretch, unless he runs sub 4.35 in the combine… in which case, Jerry Jones has already snagged him a pick before);
– Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa (Second best way to upgrade the defensive line would be to put a stud opposite of Williams)
Team Needs: DL, CB, Safety
2010 Rd1 pick: Kareem Jackson (20th pick) (Grade: B-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Janoris Jenkins (Pick #12)

#11 Pick: Jake Locker, QB, Washington Team: Washington
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Donovan McNabb has been proved to be the thing holding Shanahan’s offense back. He will be leaving in the offseason. So finding a good signal caller with this pick should be important for the Redskins who like big plays in the offseason. Shanahan professed his admiration for Locker in last years draft, and Locker could definitely do well with a QB guru like Shanahan.
Optional Picks:
– Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa (Getting rid of Haynesworth is not going to be a pretty PR scene, so getting a replacement would take some heat off of the moment. Clayborn is a true power DE that will work in the 3-4 scheme Redskins want to run);
– Gabe Carimi (Since they took Trent Williams last year, they don’t need a LT, but getting a staple RT would be smart. Trading down and getting Carimi would instantly upgrade this offensive line)
Team Needs: WR, OL, Defense
2010 Rd1 pick: Trent Williams (4th pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Allen Bailey (Pick #11)

#12 Pick: Cam Newton, QB, Auburn Team: Minnesota
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Webb is an interesting quarterback, but should stay as a playmaker WR, and Tavaris Jackson is a FA, and Brett Favre WILL retire … Frazier in town, and now he will get a new quarterback to draft. I think Cam Newton will get picked here to put some excitement into the Minnesota program.
Optional Picks:
– Janoris Jenkins, CB, Florida (The problem shouldn’t totally be put on the corners, since the safeties should take a lot of blame. But the Vikings could get a good guy here with this pick);
– Nate Solder, OT, Colorado (Nate doesn’t have the best hands or technique yet, but he has the most potential, and Minnesota needs some serious help on the offensive line. Getting him here would not be a stretch by any means)
Team Needs: QB, OL, DL
2010 Rd1 pick: Chris Cook (2nd rounder, first team pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Stephen Paea (Pick #13)

#13 Pick: Janoris Jenkins, CB, Florida Team: Tennessee
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Tennessee has to address the corner position this year, even though the quarterback position is in confusion. Getting Jenkins here would be good to play opposite of Finnegan.
Optional Picks:
– Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M (Not the most attractive pick, but getting one of the top 2 OLBs in the draft would greatly help the pass rush of the Titans);
– Nate Solder, OT, Colorado (Help on the offensive line is needed in Tennesse and with the top tackle still left on the board at #13, they could definitely go this route and find a corner in the later rounds)
Team Needs: QB, LB, CB, OL
2010 Rd1 pick: Derrick Morgan (16th pick) (Grade: C)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Cam Newton (Pick #9)

#14 Pick: Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa Team: Seattle
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Carroll really wants to get Robert Quinn, but with him off the board, they take Clayborn as a true power on the defensive line. They must get the line better this offseason, so taking someone here at the first pick would be wise.
Optional Picks:
– Nate Solder, OT, Colorado (Getting the top tackle prospect at #14 would feel strange in some drafts, but this year is definitely going to be unique. Okung has been ok, but getting another tackle would be good);
– Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue (This is a little more attractive of a pick for Seattle, but I think they fail with seeing the obvious, and go with Clayborn. But, Kerrigan coming off the edge in the 4-3 would be an impressive addition)
Team Needs: DL, OL, QB
2010 Rd1 pick: Russell Okung (6th pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Robert Quinn (Pick #16)

#15 Pick: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma St Team: St. Louis
Help-MyTeam Analysis: I am not going to lie, but I really like this pick here. Blackmon has shown he has some unreal hands, and should have a good 40 time. Getting a true #1 receiver for Bradford would help his potential so much it is not even funny. Blackmon or Jones would be a smart pick here, depending on who the franchise falls in love with.
Optional Picks:
– Julio Jones, WR, Alabama (One of these two WRs will probably be taken with this first round pick, since getting Bradford some help on offense will help his progression. We will see who they fall in love with after the combine, Jones or Blackmon);
– Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue (Getting someone opposite of Long would be smart for the defense of the Rams and Frazier knows this)
Team Needs: WR, DL CB
2010 Rd1 pick: Sam Bradford (1st pick) (Grade: A)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Julio Jones (Pick #17)

#16 Pick: Ryan Kerrigan, OLB, Purdue Team: New England (via. Oakland)
Help-MyTeam Analysis: The linebackers of the Patriots has always been Belichicks favorite position and with Kerrigan falling to him here, he snags him. Kerrigan is a force rushing off of the edge, and could help the Patriots defense a lot.
Optional Picks:
– Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama (Fun to see such a beast of a running back in the Patriots offense. Been a long time since they had a big name running back. Could they finally pull the trigger on a Heisman Trophy winner?);
– Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA (The OLB position should be addressed by the Patriots, and Belichick could snag a future team captain with Ayers. He is such a force that is good rushing AND covering)
Team Needs: CB, DL, LB, RB
2010 Rd1 pick: Devin McCoutry (27th pick) (Grade: B+)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Mark Ingram (Pick #18)

#17 Pick: Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama Team: Miami
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Both Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown are free agent this offseason and I don’t think both are back. Getting Ingram would be a smart pick for the Miami franchise to excite the fan base since Cowher probably wont be coming around.
Optional Picks:
– Rahim Moore, OLB, UCLA (Although they have some really good OLB potential, getting one that can truly cover also would be really smart. Getting Ayers wont be popular, but not a horrible pick);
– Mike Pouncey, OG Florida (There should be some new youth in the offensive line, since it has struggled and some might be leaving in free agency. Pouncey is looking like the better version of his older brother and would upgrade this line)
Team Needs: RB, OG, QB, S
2010 Rd1 pick: Jared Odrick( 28th pick) (Grade: C-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Rahim Moore (Pick #19)

#18 Pick: Nate Solder, OL, Colorado Team: Indianapolis
Help-MyTeam Analysis: How can the best offensive tackle in the draft drop to the 18th pick? Well, look above and you will see how it pans out. In the meantime, the Colts cheer to get Peyton Manning some more protection. Getting him another offensive weapon might be the target again, but keeping Peyton safe would be a smarter pick, since the offensive line is horrible.
Optional Picks:
– Allen Bailey, DE, Miami (Mathis might be leaving this year, and Freeney is hurt off and on. Getting another defensive lineman would be a smart pick, and Bailey is a physical speciman);
– Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M (The draft pick last year hasn’t panned out, so maybe they try again with the best pass rushing OLB still on the board)
Team Needs: OL, WR, DL
2010 Rd1 pick: Jerry Hughes (31st pick) (Grade: C-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Anthony Castonzo (Pick #14)

#19 Pick: Allen Bailey, DE, Miami Team: Tampa Bay
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Getting a DE next to McCoy would help the line immensely! And the first target of Tampa Bay this offseason if they are smart about it. Getting Bailey would help contain quarterbacks just that much more, and not allow double teams of McCoy.
Optional Picks:
– Jonathan Baldwin, WR Pittsburg (Getting another WR opposite of Mike Williams will help the young quarterback with another stud option. Baldwin stock has dropped some due to his quarterback being a flop this year, but he has great hands and great size);
– Mike Pouncey, OG, Florida (Improving the offensive line would help the young quarterback, and Pouncey is a huge man that could shore up the inside of the offensive line)
Team Needs: DE, OL, WR
2010 Rd1 pick: Gerald McCoy (3rd pick) (Draft: A-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Jonathan Baldwin (Pick #20)

#20 Pick: Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M Team: Jacksonville
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Getting a new weak side linebacker would be smart for Jacksonville, but not the most flashy pick. Don’t be shocked tho Jacksonville, Von Miller will bring so much more pressure on the opposing quarterbacks that it will help the secondary tons.
Optional Picks:
– Rahim Moore, Safety, UCLA (Getting the top safety in the draft would be an attractive draft pick. Rahim Moore is a ball hawking safety. Not as good prospect as Berry, but maybe more polished at this point in his career);
– Drake Nevis, DT, LSU (Sure they got a few picks here on the defensive line last year, but passing on Nevis might be hard. He is a better option then there picks last year, and getting pressure on Peyton Manning is important for this team)
Team Needs: DL, Safety, LB
2010 Rd1 pick: Tyson Alualu (10th pick) (Grade: B+)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Ryan Kerrigan (Pick #21)

#21 Pick: Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin Team: San Diego
Help-MyTeam Analysis: This is not what I want to pick here, but feel obliged to. Clary on the RT position is not up to par, and Rivers needs to be kept upright after being given so much money. Carimi is such a good prospect at RT that he should not be overlooked, and at this level of the first round a good pick with other options available. Imagine how much better the running offense might be, with an improved offensive line, with a huge RT that run blocks and pass blocks really well.
Optional Picks:
– Cameron Jordan, DE, Cal (The DE position must be addressed in the first couple rounds of the 2011 draft. He might be available in the second round, so I think they go a different route the first round. Jordan is the best 3-4 DE prospect in the draft, so he gets a definite look);
– Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburg (Malcom Floyd probably gets the franchise tag this offseason, or an extension, so I see them going after a #2 receiver, since Vincent Jackson will be leaving in Free Agency. Baldwin is a big receiver that AJ Smith will probably fall in love with)
Team Needs: DE, WR, OL
2010 Rd1 pick: Ryan Mathews (12th pick) (Grade: C+)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Cameron Jordan (Pick #15)

#22 Pick: Mike Pouncey, OL, Florida Team: Green Bay
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Buluga has not been the pick that Green Bay thought he was last year, and I think the interior of the offensive line gets an upgrade again this year. Pouncey is a huge guy that can be dominant on the inside of the line. Keeping Aaron Rodgers off the ground and not getting concussions will be important for this team this year.
Optional Picks:
– Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio St (I think a lot of defensive minded teams look at Heyward at this point on in the draft, but I still don’t think Green Bay is sold on him here. They could use some more defensive line players, but Pouncey is more attractive pick);
– Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA (Not going to lie, I really like this pick here for Green Bay. Getting someone opposite of Mathews would help him so much! And to get another workhorse from California, wow! Ayers can rush, and cover, so noone will be able to double up Mathews anymore)
Team Needs: CB, OL, RB
2010 Rd1 pick: Bryan Buluga (23rd pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Aaron Williams (Pick #26)

#23 Pick: Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA Team: Kansas City
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Ayers is a perfect pick here for Tampa Bay and Pioli who really understands how to rebuild a team and defense. Berry is helping the secondary, but getting someone opposite of Tamba Hali is awesome idea!
Optional Picks:
– Julio Jones, WR, Alabama (Who has been opposite of Bowe this year? Noone of any significance, so I think they try to get one of the best WR on the board. This will continue to help the high flying offense);
– Cameron Jordan, DE, Cal (The defensive line is not really a huge strong point of the defensive, so getting a true 3-4 DE would be smart for Pioli. Not an attractive pick, but a smart one)
Team Needs: OLB, Center, WR
2010 Rd1 pick: Eric Berry (5th pick) (Grade: A-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Akeem Ayers (Pick #23)

#24 Pick: Tyron Smith, OL, USC Team: NY Giants
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Few weeks ago I never thought this would be the pick here, but the Giants will need some help on the offensive line. Tyron Smith has really help his stock this season as of late, and would help upgrade the current unit.
Optional Picks:
– Julio Jones, WR, Alabama (Again, not a pick I thought would be here, but with the two top OLB off the board, and a lot of DL gone, getting the falling Julio Jones here would be GREAT value!)
– Brandon Harris, CB, Miami (Getting a some new corners on the roster this offseason will be in the plans, but not sure if they go with the pick in the first round. If they do, Brandon Harris or Williams from Texas will get a solid look)
Team Needs: DL, OT, CB, LB
2010 Rd1 pick: Jason Pierre-Paul (15th pick) (Grade: B-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Von Miller (Pick #22)

#25 Pick: Anthony Castonzo, OL, Boston College Team: Chicago
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Chicago’s offensive line has been approving late in the season, but I still think they target a tackle in the draft. Castonzo has been rising on draft boards this year because he is just abusing defensive linemen. He would help keep Cutler off his back, and get Martz’s offense flying.
Optional Picks:
– Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburg (If Chicago doesn’t try to improve the offensive line in the first round, I really think they try to target a legit #1 receiver for Cutler to work with. Baldwin has great hands, and might get a real look here);
– Julio Jones, WR, Alabama (Another pick like the last, to improve the offense for Cutler and Martz, but I think that in the end Baldwin would get pick since his hands are so much better… unless Julio Jones 40 time is unreal at the combine)
Team Needs: WR, OL, DL
2010 Rd1 pick: Major Wright (3rd rounder, first team pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Michael Floyd (Pick #27)

#26 Pick: Cameron Jordan, DE, Cal Team: Pittsburg
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Not the most attractive pick for some fans, but getting Cameron Jordan here would/will be a steal. He one of the few premier, true 3-4 DE’s in this draft, and would help the line rotation a ton.
Optional Picks:
– Cameron Hewyard, DE, Ohio St (The Steelers have just always built their franchise around the defensive and offensive line, so this is why I see them targeting this here. At the end of the first round will be a lot of good value defensive linemen);
– Corey Liuget, DT, Illinois (Flying up draft boards, he could legitimately be taken higher in the first round, but if he drops here, they will consider getting a NT of the future to groom)
Team Needs: DE, OT, CB
2010 Rd1 pick: Maurkice Pouncey (18th pick) (Grade: B+)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Mike Pouncey (Pick #28)

#27 Pick: Corey Liuget, DL, Illinios Team: Philadelphia
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Corey Liuget has had a moster of a year, and is a totally disruption on the defensive line of scrimmage. He can speed rush, but is a better bull rusher, so will do really nicely on the inside of the Eagles 4 man line.
Optional Picks:
– Justin Houston, OLB, Georgia (I do not like this pick here, but it fills a need. Houston is the next OLB on the board, but I think after the combine someone else will be higher ranked);
– Orlando Franklin, OG, Miami (Andy Reid loves big lineman, and few are bigger than Franklin. Protecting Michael Vick will be important to the franchise, and getting Franklin as an OG would be smart in protection and the run game)
Team Needs: OL, LB, DL
2010 Rd1 pick: Brandon Graham (13th pick) (Grade: B+)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Nate Solder (Pick #24)

#28 Pick: Julio Jones, WR, NY Jets Team: NY Jets
Help-MyTeam Analysis: How does Julio Jones fall this far? Well, he just doesn’t have the good hands that everyone hopes for, so although he might be tall and fast, a few other WRs are going to go before him. The NY Jets need a new WR though, since they cant stay healthy, continue performing at a high standard, fail to catch balls, etc. Jones at the end of the first round would be a great value pick, and fill a need for the Jets. Getting Sanchez a more legitimate threat will help not only him, but also the run game.
Optional Picks:
– Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA (After Leonard went down a few weeks ago, we saw how much Rex Ryan relies on his safeties making good plays. Rahim Moore is the top safety in the draft, and could have been rated higher if he played on a better collegiate team);
– Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio St (Heyward was thought to be a top 5 pick coming into this season, but his play was inconsistent. Rex Ryan might think Heyward will fit into their 3-4 scheme, and think he can coach him up)
Team Needs: WR, OLB, FS
2010 Rd1 pick: Kyle Wilson (29th pick) (Grade: C)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: DeVier Posey (Pick #29)

#29 Pick: Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA Team: Baltimore
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Ed Reed is NOT getting any younger, and getting a some new life on the defense would be smart for this team. Rahim Moore has all the measurables, and skills to be a stud safety at the next level. He is not quite the pounder than Ed Reed was in the run game, but Rahim Moore is a solid tackler and ballhawk.
Optional Picks:
– Brandon Harris, CB, Miami (The corners have been so off and on this season, and plagued with injury, that I think they try to target this area in the first couple rounds of the draft. Another name I see them keeping an eye on is Ras-I Dowling from Virginia, who is a very ‘big/powerful’ corner);
– Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio St (The defense outside of Ngati is just not all that impressive this year, and has always been the strong suit for the Ravens. Getting back to basics this offseason, they help the defensive line with this pick)
Team Needs: CB, Safety, WR
2010 Rd1 pick: Sergio Kindle (2nd rounder, first team pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: DeAndre McDaniels (Pick #25)

#30 Pick: Drake Nevis, DT, LSU Team: New Orleans
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Anyone else see what Ray Rice just did to the New Orleans defense? They need some help on the inside of the DL, and Nevis would be a good pick here. They are bummed they miss out on Corey Luiget, but Nevis has done well in the SEC Conference, and think he will pan out better than Dorsey ever did for KC.
Optional Picks:
– Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio St (Another pick where I think they could go with the defensive line upgrade. Heyward is bummed because he has fallen so much this year, and he wont be getting near the money he thought he would, but lucky him, he gets drafted by a good team);
– Derek Sherrod, OL, Mississippi St (One of the top tackle prospects, Sherrod will get a look here from the Saints. Drew Brees is not young buck, and getting him protected will be a smart idea. The guards on the offensive line are complete studs, so finding a tackle next to them should be next)
Team Needs: DL, Safety, WR
2010 Rd1 pick: Patrick Robinson (32nd pick) (Grade: B-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Corey Liuget (Pick #30)

#31 Pick: Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio St Team: New England
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Cameron Heyward was thought to be a Top 5 prospect coming into this season, but he was inconsistent in his play and has dropped stock while others have been improving theirs. Long story short, he drops to the late first round, maybe even into the second round. Heyward will be a good DE in the 3-4 defense though, and Belichick will be happy to get him.
Optional Picks:
– Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech (Trading out of the late first round would not be a shocker for anyone. Getting Ryan Williams, since they didn’t get Ingram, would be a smart idea. The law firm is a good runner, but I think a true every down back should be drafted in this draft);
– Orlando Franklin, OG, Florida St (I was convinced that the Patriots would need an OG early in the draft, but after than kick off return by their guard on Sunday, obviously they have a playmaker, haha. With that being said, Franklin is the top guard available, and would help the run and pass game tons next season)
Team Needs: CB, DL, LB, RB
2010 Rd1 pick: Devin McCoutry (27th pick) (Grade: B+)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Cameron Heyward (Pick #31)

#32 Pick: Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame Team: Atlanta
Help-MyTeam Analysis: This is one of my favorite picks in the first round. Tony Gonzalez is not getting any younger, and has voiced rumors about retiring next year. Getting his replacement would be a good idea to continue the dominance of Matt Ryan. Kyle is a true pass catching TE that can do it all, and would instantly help the Falcons.
Optional Picks:
– Derek Sherrod, OL, Mississippi St (Protecting their signal caller is important for any smart General Manager. Getting Sherrod would be a smart pick, but I think they wait a round or two until they go after a tackle);
– Brandon Harris, CB, Miami (Harris could have a great combine and get his stock soaring through the roof. But, at this point, I see the TE being a better choice than drafting this corner, even though the defense needs a new corner)
Team Needs: OL, TE, CB
2010 Rd1 pick: Sean Witherspoon (19th pick) (Grade: B-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Kyle Rudolph (Pick #32)

2011 NFL Mock Draft v.2

Filed under: 2011, Mock Draft, NFL — Kelso @ 7:34 PM

2011 NFL MOCK DRAFT – ROUND 1 (v.2)

#1 Pick: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford Team: Carolina
Help-MyTeam Analysis: NO brainer pick here! Luck is a legitimate franchise signal caller, and with Clausen struggling, Carolina would be stupid not to pull the trigger. One scenario I see, is Clausen getting some support with AJ Green being drafted, by Carolina moving out of the first overall pick.
Optional Picks:
– Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama (If someone falls in love with Luck and trade into the #1 spot, Carolina would be hard to pass up on this stud);
– AJ Green, WR, Georgia (Some of the hit against Clausen is he doesn’t have anyone to throw too, and Green seems to be the best WR prospect since Megatron and Randy Moss).
Team Needs: QB, WR, DL
2010 Rd1 pick: Jimmy Clausen (2nd rounder, first team pick) (Grade: C)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Andrew Luck

#2 Pick: Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson Team: Cincinnati
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Although Carlos Dunlap has been improving late in the 2010 season, the pass rush of Cincinnati is horrendous, and adding a true beast like Bowers would be a huge upgrade. Bowers struggled his first two years, but this year has made a living in the backfield of opponents. Huge player, that looks like a freak on paper, AND on the field.
Optional Picks:
– AJ Green, WR, Georgia (With OchoCinco and TO both aging, snagging a potential HOF WR would be smart);
– Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina (Here is a sleeper pick, but I really feel Cincy needs a pass rushing DE, and they don’t have a problem with character issues… Quinn is an extremely fast big man)
Team Needs: DE, OL, QB
2010 Rd1 pick: Jermaine Gresham (21st pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Da’Quan Bowers

#3 Pick: Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn Team: Buffalo
Help-MyTeam Analysis: I think Buffalo goes with a freak of a big man, in Fairley. Fairley can not only play in a 4-3, but also a 3-4 base defense, since Buffalo cant seem to make up their mind. If not, they could very well trade up to try to go after Andrew Luck, because Buffalo desperately needs a franchise quarterback. I also see Buffalo trading out of this pick, down to the 10-20 round to get one of the top tier OT in this years draft since they passed on that early last year also.
Optional Picks:
– Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford (Trading up for Luck would not be a bad decision);
– Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama (Depending on how the combine pans out, Dareus could be the guy Buffalo likes more than Fairley to upgrade their defensive line)
Team Needs: QB, OL, DL
2010 Rd1 pick: C.J. Spiller (9th pick) (Grade: A-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Nick Fairley

#4 Pick: Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU Team: Detroit
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Great pick here for the GM of the Lions, not only does he fill a need in the secondary, but grabs one of the few corners ever to be justified going in the top 5 picks. Big and strong, Peterson will immediately help the Detroit secondary, and can help with kick/punt returns and special teams.
Optional Picks:
– Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska (sleeper pick being that Prince probably shouldn’t be in the top 10, but Detroit needs a top corner SO badly, that if they cant trade out of their pick, and cant get Peterson, they will have to consider Prince);
– Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina (VanderBosch is not getting younger, and grabbing Quinn, next to Suh, would give Detroit one of the nastiest DL’s in the league for years to come).
Team Needs: DE, CB, Safety
2010 Rd1 pick: Ndamukong Suh (2nd pick) (Grade: A)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Patrick Peterson

#5 Pick: Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas Team: Arizona
Help-MyTeam Analysis: After the recent blow up on camera of Derek Anderson, I think Coach Wisenhunt and the Cardinal GM are at their last strings. They need a franchise quarterback to throw to the insanely talented Fitzgerald, but also someone that can lead a team. Max Hall could be a great story, but I don’t see him as being a “franchise” quarterback, so Arizona should look for one early in this draft.
Optional Picks:
– Jake Locker, QB, Washington (Jake could have been the first overall pick in the 2010 draft had he declared but decided to come back to Washington. If Wisenhunt is not in love with Ryan Mallett and his supposed character/learning issues, then the coach might pull the trigger on the highly talented Locker. One hit against Locker, is he does not look NFL ready, and Arizona needs a signal caller now!)
– Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska (Getting a shut down corner opposite of Rogers-Cromartie, would do WONDERS for the Arizona defense. With that being said, I still think the most important offseason issue will be getting a QB. But, I could see one of Denver’s quarterbacks, or even Donovan McNabb or Vince Young being unloaded and being traded to Arizona. In this case, CB will be the way to go at this point in the draft).
Team Needs: QB, OT, CB
2010 Rd1 pick: QB, OT, CB
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Ryan Mallett

#6 Pick: Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama Team: Denver
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Perfect pick to fall to Denver. The Jaamal Williams experiment has not worked this year, and Denver continues to get run all over against. AFC West all has some powerful runners, so stopping the run will be a major focus this offseason. Denver must upgrade the defensive line, and not by spending dumb money on free-agents like Jarvis Moss. Dareus is a very large man, and can play at a NT in a 3-4 base defense. (Update: Josh McDaniels has been fired as the head coach, and RB coach Studesville will be the interim. Depending on new coaching in the offseason, this pick might end up being a franchise quarterback).
Optional Picks:
– Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska (With Champ Bailey at 32 years of age, and no one across from him of Prince’s caliber, Denver would be smart to lock up one of the top 2 corners of the draft);
– Nate Solder, OL, Colorado (Trading out of this pick, into the 10-20 range and snagging the top tackle in the draft would be a smart move)
Team Needs: DL, OL, CB
2010 Rd1 pick: Demaryius Thomas (22nd pick) (Grade: B-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Marcell Dareus

#7 Pick: Jake Locker, QB, Washington Team: San Francisco
Help-MyTeam Analysis: San Francisco, how do I start with this pick? I really thought Troy Smith was a good off-season pickup for SF, but I don’t see him anymore as anything more than a #2 QB. With that being said, Jake Locker could have been the top pick in last years draft, but dropping in this years draft due to lack of team/individual performances. Locker is one freak athlete though, and a much better mobile quarterback than Alex Smith ever was in college. Finding a quarterback of the future is very important for the York ownership.
Optional Picks:
– Cam Newton, QB, Auburn (Am I really putting Newton in the top 10? Well, after the impressive comeback victory he staged over Alabama, the Newton train is in full effect. SF needs a quarterback of the future, since Alex Smith is now a flop, and Troy Smith seems to be nothing more than a good #2)
– Stephan Paea, DT, Oregon State (Franklin was relunctant to sign the franchise tag, so the DL could use a young upgrade. Paea has been a beast in the middle of the defensive line in the PAC-10 this year. He would fit in well quickly)
– Drake Nevis, DT, LSU (Since Im thinking DL could be a very potential option for SF this offseason, Nevis will be right up there in the talks with the best of the defensive linemen left at this point. Nevis is having a very impressive season in the SEC this year with a ton of TFL’s)
Team Needs: QB, CB, DL, OLB
2010 Rd1 pick: Anthony Davis (11th pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Jake Locker

#8 Pick: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska Team: Dallas
Help-MyTeam Analysis: The Cowboys secondary is terrible, and Jerry Jones will be targeting this area of his team early. Prince Amukamara is one of the best shut-down corner prospects in the draft, and maybe a stretch at #8 overall, but Dallas really needs a new corner.
Optional Picks:
– AJ Green, WR, Georgia (Jerry Jones has publicly said he made a mistake passing on Randy Moss… would he do the same again on a near duplicate? Having Green with Dez Bryant and Miles would be the best WR trio in the 2011 season. I can hear Tony Romo loving this pick);
– Nate Solder, OT, Colorado (Dallas desperately needs to protect Tony Romo in the future, getting a blue chip tackle in the draft would be very smart)
Team Needs: CB, OL, DE
2010 Rd1 pick: Dez Bryant (24th pick) (Grade: A-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Prince Amukamara

#9 Pick: Cam Newton, QB, Auburn Team: Tennessee
Help-MyTeam Analysis: I think Tennessee parts ways with Vince Young this offseason, but he will get a chance with another team. After the last few debacles VY has created, coaching is not putting up with it anymore! Cam Newtons draft stock is soaring, and look at it this way, Cam Newton is a better QB in college that Vince Young ever was, just imagine what he could do in Vince’s place at Tennessee! This is not what I figured Tennessee would be doing, but with Cam Newton still on the board, they jump.
Optional Picks:
– Drake Nevis, DT, LSU (Will Tennessee be able to bring Albert Haynesworth back next season? I see it as being a possibility, but even so, Drake Devin would be a great pick for Tennessee. His stock is skyrocketing lately, and has an impressive motor, perfect for a DT/DE in Tennessee’s 4 man front)
– Janoris Jenkins, CB, Miami (Finnegan has gotten some negative publicity as of late, but is a decent corner. Having someone opposite of him, would greatly improve the pass rush in a league where Peyton Manning and Matt Schaub tear apart defenses)
Team Needs: QB, LB, CB
2010 Rd1 pick: Derrick Morgan (16th pick) (Grade: C)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Drake Nevis

#10 Pick: AJ Green, WR, Georgia Team: Cleveland
Help-MyTeam Analysis: AJ Green dropping out of the top 5 AND Cleveland getting their biggest need, wow! I can hear President Holmgren just cheering in his office. Colt McCoy wasn’t the solution at Quarterback, but now that he is panning out, finding him a stud offensive weapon will be high on the Browns ‘to-do’ list. Colt will now have a full year to show what he is all about with some more offense options around him.
Optional Picks:
– Nate Solder, OL, Colorado (Continuing to upgrade the OL would be smart since the RG and RT positions could both use help next year. Getting Solder to be the RT, would give the Browns probowl caliber tackles for the next decade)
– Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina (Getting Quinn this late is a steal, since he should be a potential top 5 pick if not suspended this season. Quinn would work well in the new 3-4 defense that Cleveland is transitioning to)
Team Needs: OL, DL, WR
2010 Rd1 pick: Joe Haden (7th pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: AJ Green

#11 Pick: Allen Bailey, DE, Miami Team: Washington
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Sure, everyone has Washington taking a wide receiver in the upcoming draft, and for good reason. Donovan McNabb desperately needs a #1 WR, but I think there is good depth for WR this draft, and one can be found in the second round. Not taking Ingram could be the biggest mistake though at this point. Ingram could very well be the next Adrian Peterson! But, Washington will be parting ways with Albert Haynesworth, and taking a stud DE to play in the new 3-4 defense, would help immensely.
Optional Picks:
– Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama (Taking Ingram would give Shanahan a franchise RB for years to come! He can run between the tackles and snap it outside, and can you imagine what he could do in Shanahan’s zone blocking schemes);
– Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon St. (Upgrading the defensive line would be a good place/value at pick #11, so I have them considering Paea)
Team Needs: WR, OL, Defense
2010 Rd1 pick: Trent Williams (4th pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Mark Ingram

#12 Pick: Janoris Jenkins, CB, Miami Team: Houston
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Houston would love to get another shutdown corner opposite of Kareem Jackson, and Janoris Jenkins might just be that guy. HE should have a good combine, and therefore get more attention closer to draft time, but none the less I still have him ranked the 3rd CB in the draft, and the best one still available at this point.
Optional Picks:
– Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA (Upgrading the weakside linebacker positon would be great for Houston to do, and Ayers brings a ton of versitilty to the linebacking corp. Not only can Ayers rush, but he is above average in coverage and a team captain)
– Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State (Defensive tackles have not been great for Houston this year, and getting Paea would be a smart move. He is an immoveable beast)
Team Needs: DL, CB, Safety
2010 Rd1 pick: Kareem Jackson (20th pick) (Grade: B-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Janoris Jenkins

#13 Pick: Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon St Team: Minnesota
Help-MyTeam Analysis: With Locker, Newton, Mallett off the board at this point, I see the Vikings trying to upgrade their defensive line. Jared Allen isn’t getting younger, so Robert Quinn could be the pick here, but I think Paea is just a huge nasty big man that will be a stud on Sundays; Vikings fall in love with a true workhorse.
Optional Picks:
– Anthony Castonzo, OL, Boston College (His draft stock has risen as of late, and Minnesota would benefit hugely to upgrade their offensive line for the next quarterback of the Vikings);
– Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina (Like I said before, Jared Allen needs an heir, and Quinn is a true freak of nature rushing on off the outside. A potential Top 5 big if not suspended this year)
Team Needs: QB, OL, DL
2010 Rd1 pick: Chris Cook (2nd rounder, first team pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Cam Newton

#14 Pick: Anthony Castonzo, OL, Boston Coll. Team: Indianapolis
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Interesting draft, where the first Off Tackle off the board is at #14, but at least Indy finds a franchise tackle, AND at an affordable price. Peyton’s biggest problem this year is the lack of time in the pocket this year. Drafting an offensive weapon might seem like a good idea, but getting back to basics and keeping Peyton upright should be their first priority.
Optional Picks:
– Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama (This could be a tempting pick, since the running game has struggled year after year for the Colts. Could you imagine Peyton and Ingram on the same time… wow, what an offense!)
– Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue (Kerrigan has been living in the backfield this season, and moving his draft grade way up into the first round. With Mathis hitting free agency, and Hughes not really panning out from last years draft, I see the Colts snagging this top defensive guy)
Team Needs: OL, WR, DL
2010 Rd1 pick: Jerry Hughes (31st pick) (Grade: C-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Nate Solder

#15 Pick: Cameron Jordan, DL, Cal Team: San Diego
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Chargers need to find a WR, but Jacques Cesaire is a free agent, and he needs to be replaced. Cameron Jordan is one of the top 3-4 DE prospects in the nation. Upgrading the front 7 will be a smart move for AJ Smith and the San Diego Chargers.
Optional Picks:
– Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa (Depending on how the combine goes, I see Jordan and Clayborn as being the top DE being targeted for the Chargers 3-4 defense);
– Nate Solder, OL, Colorado (Right Tackle Clary is hitting free agency and shouldn’t be brought back. McNeill got his extension so finding a tackle to play opposite of him would benefit Rivers who has been on his back way too much this year);
– Justin Blackmon, WR, Ok St (Depending on him declaring, this is a perfect pick for AJ Smith who Loves big WRs. Vincent Jackson is gone, and Floyd might not return, so drafting a #1 receiver for Rivers would be smart, even though he seems to be able to throw to anyone)
Team Needs: DE, WR, OL
2010 Rd1 pick: Ryan Mathews (12th pick) (Grade: C+)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Cameron Jordan

#16 Pick: Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina Team: Seattle
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Seattle really lucks out on this pick. Their pass rush is horrible this year, so upgrading this area is essential to future success, especially with Sam Bradford showing so much promise in the division. Quinn could have been a top 5 pick, if not suspended this season, so getting him here would be a steal, and fill a huge need.
Optional Picks:
– Nate Solder, OT, Colorado (Upgrading the offensive line would be smart for Pete Carroll. Two tackles could leave in free agency, and Okung is progressing slowely due to injuries);
– Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue (Having Kerrigan rush off the edge would definitely help the Seahawks, but I think they fall in love with Robert Quinn)
Team Needs: DL, OL, QB
2010 Rd1 pick: Russell Okung (6th pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Robert Quinn

#17 Pick: Julio Jones, WR, Alabama Team: St. Louis
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Drafting a #1 receiver for Sam Bradford seems like the smart thing to do in the 2011 draft. Jones’s only knock is that he doesn’t always have the most reliable hands.
Optional Picks:
– Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pitt (I think that in the end, Baldwin gets a higher draft grade after the combine than Julio Jones, and therefore the Rams pick him here);
– Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue (Getting this stud to play opposite of Long, would vastly improve the defense front seven. With that being said, the Rams do not look to the line this high in the draft)
Team Needs: WR, DL CB
2010 Rd1 pick: Sam Bradford (1st pick) (Grade: A)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Jonathan Baldwin

#18 Pick: Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama Team: New England (via, Oakland)
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Oh what a different pick for Belichick. He always likes to upgrade the defense, but with Ingram dropping in his lap, and the RBs in such disarray next year, passing on Ingram would not be smart. The top running back, pairs with the top QB, watch out NFL, few more Super Bowl rings are coming to New England.
Optional Picks:
– Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue (The better Oakland plays, the less of a chance Patriots are to grabbing their first choice of Bailey, but Kerrigan is a decent second choice for upgrading the defensive rush);
– Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M (Von can rush better than almost any OLB in the nation, even when being double teamed the whole 2010 season. Getting some rushing youth on the LBs would be great for Belichick defense)
Team Needs: CB, DL, LB, RB
2010 Rd1 pick: Devin McCoutry (27th pick) (Grade: B+)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Allen Bailey

#19 Pick: Rahim Moore, SS, UCLA Team: Miami
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Upgrading the safety position would be a smart move for the Dolphins and Rahim Moore is the top on the board. His stock has dropped a little lately, but the character of this guy, and his interviews at the combine will have GMs coming knocking for a new defensive captain for their team. One scenario though, is the Dolphins trying to trade in front of the Patriots to get Mark Ingram.
Optional Picks:
– Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech (With Ingram just being snagged up by New England, I see Miami still trying to upgrade their RB position, where Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams will both be FA next season);
– Rodney Hudson, OG, Fl State (Draft stock of late is sky rocketing, and could be the first OG taken in the draft. Although this is high for an OG to be picked, the interior of Miami’s line could use an upgrade, and keeping in state Hudson, would be a smart pick)
Team Needs: RB, OG, QB, S
2010 Rd1 pick: Jared Odrick( 28th pick) (Grade: C-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Ryan Williams

#20 Pick: Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pitt Team: Tampa Bay
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Getting a stud WR is high on the priority list, and Tampa Bay snags a true playmaker in Baldwin. Fitzgerald came from Pitt, how well could Baldwin do? His stock has dropped a little this season, but that is due to poor QB play at Pittsburg.
Optional Picks:
– Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa (Getting a stud next to McCoy rushing off the edge would be awesome for the defensive line)
– Nate Solder, OL, Colorado (Drafting one of the best tackles in the draft will continue to protect their new quarterback)
Team Needs: DE, OL, WR
2010 Rd1 pick: Gerald McCoy (3rd pick) (Draft: A-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Adrian Clayborn

#21 Pick: Ryan Kerrigan, DL, Purdue Team: Jacksonville
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Kerrigan has made a habit this year of living in the opponent’s backfield, and wrecking havoc on the QBs. Although, he does not have premiere height/weight for a DE, I think his motor/heart justifies this high of a pick. Jacksonville desperately needs to get a pass rush from it’s defensive line.
Optional Picks:
– Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M (Getting a rush for the Jaguars should be a top priority. Yes they drafted rushing players in last years draft, but they haven’t panned out yet)
– Ahmad Black, Safety, Florida, (Ahmad is a ballhawking safety in the SEC and I think the Jags would want to upgrade their secondary, but here might be a stretch. They did do a stretch pick last year tho… Tyson Alualu)
Team Needs: DL, Safety, LB
2010 Rd1 pick: Tyson Alualu (10th pick) (Grade: B+)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Ryan Kerrigan

#22 Pick: Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M Team: NY Giants
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Giants need some youth in the linebackers, and Von Miller makes it a habit of getting to the quarterback. His stock as dipped this year, but that is because his protection is dwindling due to constant double/triple teaming.
Optional Picks:
– Aaron Williams, CB, Texas (Upgrading the defensive backfield is one of the most most important part for most teams in the offseason, and the Giants could grab a stud that is moving up the charts);
– Nate Solder, OL, Colorado (Getting one of the top tackles would greatly help an aging and injury prone offensive line. Giving time for Eli Manning to throw would do wonders for the offense)
Team Needs: DL, OT, CB, LB
2010 Rd1 pick: Jason Pierre-Paul (15th pick) (Grade: B-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Jeremy Beal

#23 Pick: Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA Team: Kansas City
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Getting Ayers this low in the first round could be a god sent gift for the Chiefs. Not only do they get another team captain for their defense, but also a stud OLB do go beside Tamba Hali who is also going into free agency. Ayers is good at pass coverage and rushing, therefore making him the second ranked OLB on my board.
Optional Picks:
– Mike Pouncey, Center, Florida (Passing on Pouncey might be a hard decision to make, but I think they Chiefs would benefit more by continuing to upgrade their defense. Ayers can do so many things for a team, be hard to pass him up)
– Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Purdue (Dwayne Bowe as of late is doing very well, but the Chiefs need some more production from the WR corp. Baldwin has unreal hands, and should help Cassell out a lot on third downs)
Team Needs: OLB, Center, WR
2010 Rd1 pick: Eric Berry (5th pick) (Grade: A-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Mike Pouncey

#24 Pick: Nate Solder, OL, Colorado Team: Philadelphia
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Not completely sold on this pick yet, and it definitely could be Nevis, but with that being said, Andy Reid loves his offensive line man, and getting one of the top tackles at the 24th pick is almost too good to be true.
Optional Picks:
– Derrok Sherrod, OL, Miss St (Philly desperately needs some help on the offensive line, and keeping whoever their quarterback is, upright! Depending on combine, Sherrod might end up being the #2 rated tackle on the board. That or Tyron Smith from USC who is skyrocketing up the big board)
– Drake Nevis, DL, LSU (Upgrading the defensive line should be an important off season action for Andy Reid. Drake Nevis is an interesting prospect for the Eagles and will get a look here)
Team Needs: OL, LB, DL
2010 Rd1 pick: Brandon Graham (13th pick) (Grade: B+)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Anthony Castonzo

#25 Pick: DeAndre McDaniels, SS, Clemson Team: Baltimore
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Ed Reed… one of the most important safeties to ever play the game… but, he is getting old. Baltimore needs to draft a replacement for Ed Reed, and I think DeAndre McDaniels will get the nod. He is not as fluid in coverage as say Duenta Williams, but he brings the heavy hit stick, like Ed Reed did, which is why I think they choose McDaniels. I really think the Ravens either target a Safety or Corner in the first round this year.
Optional Picks:
– Duenta Williams, SS, North Carolina (If McDaniels continues to slip down the draft, Baltimore might look to a different solution for Ed Reed’s heir)
– Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virgina (Dowlings stock has taken a hit this year, as last year he would have been rated a top 10-15 pick in this years draft. Ravens definitely need a new corner though, so they will be looking for a solution)
Team Needs: CB, Safety, WR
2010 Rd1 pick: Sergio Kindle (2nd rounder, first team pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: DeAndre McDaniels

#26 Pick: Aaron Williams, CB, Texas Team: Green Bay
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Woodson is a HOF for sure, but he is getting up in age. Aaron Williams is a ball hawking, hard hitting corner from Texas, that might be rated higher is Texas had done better this year. Either way, he is the top corner left on my board, and therefore I have Green Bay filling a need here.
Optional Picks:
– LaMichael James, RB, Oregon (Here is another one of my sleeper picks. With injuries riddling the running backs of Green Bay this year, they look to draft a change of pace back, while getting a franchise runner of the future)
– Gabe Carimi, OL, Wisconsin (Continueing to upgrade their offensive line would not be a back call to protect Rodgers for years to come, but Green Bay really needs a RB or CB, so they go this route in the first round)
Team Needs: CB, OL, RB
2010 Rd1 pick: Bryan Buluga (23rd pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Aaron Williams

#27 Pick: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame Team: Chicago
Help-MyTeam Analysis: With Julio Jones gone off the board, Chicago looks for another big-bodied receiver for Jay Cutler. Floyd has been hurt throughout his career at Notre Dame, but when on the field, he is an absolute force to try to stop.
Optional Picks:
– Mike Pouncey, OL, Florida (Bummer they cant get Pouncey, because Chicago could use an upgrade in the middle of their offensive line. Cutler is always laying on his back getting sacked, this needs to be fixed this off season)
– Drake Nevis, DL, LSU (Upgrading the Bears defensive line would help greatly, and continue to improve Julius Peppers performances. Nevis would do well on the inside of a 4 man line, with a relentless motor. With this pick, Chicago gets back to a little of where they were with Tank Johnson on the line)
Team Needs: WR, OL, DL
2010 Rd1 pick: Major Wright (3rd rounder, first team pick) (Grade: B)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Julio Jones

#28 Pick: Mike Pouncey, Center, Florida Team: Pittsburg
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Oh how the draft gods cheered in Pittsburg. Last mock draft Pouncey was off the board at this pick, so Steelers couldn’t grab him, but this time he drops right into their laps! Getting the Pouncey brothers to play on the same line together for the next decade, is how the Steelers win so many Super Bowls!
Optional Picks:
– JJ Watts, DE, Wisconsin (JJ’s stock is rising huge of late, with a nice performace in the Championship game last weekend. He would do well as a power DE in Pitts 3-4 defense, because he has the size)
– Brandon Harris, CB, Miami (Brandon might be a little small, but he has good speed, and the secondary in Pitt needs an upgrade. Steelers take a look at one of the best corners still on the table. Harris or Ras-I Dowling who is a much bigger corner, but slower)
Team Needs: DE, OT, CB
2010 Rd1 pick: Maurkice Pouncey (18th pick) (Grade: B+)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Greg Romeus

#29 Pick: DeVier Posey, WR, Ohio St Team: NY Jets
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Almost all of the Jets WR’s are free agents next year, so they look to grab one of the best WR left in the draft with this pick. I see them going with a speed guy, so Posey could be the pick, but if they wanted a big body, they could go with Hankerson from Miami.
Optional Picks:
– Justin Houston, OLB, Georgia (I think this could definitely be the pick for Rex Ryan. We saw against the Patriots, that the OLB are horrendous, and need an upgrade. I think the Jets bring back some of their FA WRs, so its not so much of a need, and continue to upgrade their defense.
– Duenta Williams, SS, North Carolina (Leonard went down hurt, and the lack of depth in the safety position, is a very glaring need now. With some of the top safeties off the board, Rex Ryan looks at one of the last safeties with a first round grade. This could be a sleeper pick, because I think without all the North Carolina scandel this year, Williams ends up passing Rahim Moore has the best Safety in 2010 football.
Team Needs: WR, OLB, FS
2010 Rd1 pick: Kyle Wilson (29th pick) (Grade: C)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: DeVier Posey

#30 Pick: Corey Lingut, DL, Illinios Team: New Orleans
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Corey Lingut is a man among boys right now. His stock is skyrocketing this season with very impressive stats. Not only does he have the production, but he is also a “blue-chipper” and has the adequate size for NFL defensive starting line unit. Putting Corey inside on New Orleans 4 man front would do wonders in stopping the run.
Optional Picks:
– Duenta Williams, SS, North Carolina (They need youth at the safety position, and continue to upgrade it. Williams has dropped a bit in this draft, so I seeing good value at getting him here at 30)
– Ryan Boyles, WR, Oklahoma (With Lance Moore being a free agent this year, Drew Brees gets a young replacement slot receiver)
Team Needs: DL, Safety, WR
2010 Rd1 pick: Patrick Robinson (32nd pick) (Grade: B-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Marvin Austin

#31 Pick: Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio St Team: New England
Help-MyTeam Analysis: New England and Belichick are super stoked being able to grab one of the top DE in the draft. They need a replacement for the hole that Richard Seymour left, and now that they draft Ingram, getting a DL stud would be smart. And getting Heyward at the end of the first round would seem a huge shock from last year, but Patriots are cheering at their success after their Super Bowl hangover.
Optional Picks:
– Orlando Franklin, OG, (Will Makin be back? Probably not since New England is not prone to paying FA big money. So drafting the top OG in the draft would be a smart bet also, since they just gave Brady a bunch of money)
– Drake Nevis, DT, LSU (Nevis is an interesting character. Sometime he is unblockable, and other times just plane pedestrian. We will see who Belichick falls in love with for his DL upgrade, but I don’t really see Nevis as being a good fit for the 3-4 defense)
Team Needs: CB, DL, LB, RB
2010 Rd1 pick: Devin McCoutry (27th pick) (Grade: B+)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Orlando Franklin

#32 Pick: Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame Team: Atlanta
Help-MyTeam Analysis: Tony Gonzalez won’t be around forever, and has even mentioned he might be retiring after this year. If so, Matt Ryan will need a top-flight pass catching TE, and it just so happens the #1 rated TE is left on the board. Atlanta fills a need here for the future, and gets a truly impressive young TE.
Optional Picks:
– Tyron Smith, OT, USC (Tyron stock as risen lately, and should be one of the tackles taken in the late first round to second round. Getting another great tackle to block for Matt Ryan would be smart for the organization)
– Brandon Harris, CB, Miami (Sleeper pick, but I think Atlanta might try to target a corner in the upcoming draft, and early. Brandon Harris is a smart player and good in coverage. A little small to handle big receivers, but adequate speed for his size)
Team Needs: OL, TE, CB
2010 Rd1 pick: Sean Witherspoon (19th pick) (Grade: B-)
2011 Rd1 previous pick: Kyle Rudolph

Even NFL players like cupcakes …

Filed under: Home — Kelso @ 4:08 AM

Cupcakes have become the passion of many over the last decade. My sister, Christa, has a baking company, http://www.MiniBaker.com, which specializes in miniature cupcakes. So, I have a first hand knowledge of the product… as, I have been a taste tester many days. Cupcakes bring small joys to people, in the form of a warm, moist deliciousness. The trend has spread across the United States, and even to some foreign countries abroad. Cupcake Wars, is a show on cable television that puts 3 bakers against each other in a competition of who can make the most delicious, innovative cupcakes.

I was recently introduced to the Cupcake Wars show by watching ESPN this offseason (2010). One of the episodes illustrated the Minnesota Vikings safety, Husain Abdullah #39), is a Food Network enthusiast, especially Cupcake Wars!! The way he describes how much he enjoys cupcakes, I had to fill in my sister. Cupcakes have become such a standard dessert, that they have been able to cross into new market segments and become ever popular.

Hey everyone,

One of the reasons I first started mock drafting the NFL, was because of a website (www.walterfootball.com). One of the premiere information sites to find all your mock drafts, not only for the NFL. I recently spoke with Walter, and got my recent mock draft posted onto his site. I hope to work more with him in the future, as I hope to learn a lot from him, and therefore pass more help along to my readers and their teams!

2011 NFL Mock Draft v.1

Filed under: Mock Draft — Kelso @ 6:29 AM

2011 NFL MOCK DRAFT – ROUND 1 (12/4/2010)

#1 Pick: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford                        Team: Carolina

Analysis: NO brainer pick here! Luck is a legitmate franchise signal caller, and with Clausen struggling, Carolina would be stupid not to pull the trigger. One scenario I see, is Clausen getting some support with AJ Green being drafted, by Carolina moving out of the first overall pick.

Optional Picks:

– Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama (If someone falls in love with Luck and trade into the #1 spot, Carolina would be hard to pass up on this stud);

#2            Pick:  Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson            Team: Cincinnati

Analysis: Although Carlos Dunlap has been improving late in the 2010 season, the pass rush of Cincinnati is horrendous, and adding a true beast like Bowers would be a huge upgrade. Bowers struggled his first two years, but this year has made a living in the backfield of opponents. Huge player, that looks like a freak on paper, AND on the field.

Optional Picks:

– AJ Green, WR, Georgia (With OchoCinco and TO both aging, snagging a potential HOF WR would be smart);

#3            Pick: Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn                        Team: Buffalo

Analysis: I think Buffalo goes with a freak of a big man, in Fairley.

– Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford (Trading up for Luck would not be a bad decision);

#4            Pick: Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU                        Team: Detroit

Analysis: Great pick here for the GM of the Lions, not only does he fill a need in the secondary, but grabs one of the few corners ever to be justified going in the top 5 picks. Big and strong, Peterson will immediately help the Detroit secondary, and can help with kick/punt returns and special teams.

Optional Picks:

– Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska (sleeper pick being that Prince probably shouldn’t be in the top 10, but Detroit needs a top corner SO badly, that if they cant trade out of their pick, and cant get Peterson, they will have to consider Prince);

#5            Pick: Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama                        Team: Denver

Analysis: Perfect pick to fall to Denver.

Optional Picks:

– Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska (With Champ Bailey at 32 years of age, and noone across from him of Prince’s caliber, Denver would be smart to lock up one of the top 2 corners of the draft);

– Nate Solder, OL, Colorado (McDaniels was schooled by Bellichick, so trading out of this pick and snagging the top OL of the draft would not be a bad scenario. Denver’s interior OL is downright bad)

Team Needs: DL, OL, CB

2010 Rd1 pick: Demaryius Thomas (22nd pick) (Grade: B-)

Help Protect Yourself From ID Theft. Get help with LifeLock. Enroll Now.

#6            Pick: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska            Team: Dallas

Analysis: The Cowboys secondary is terrible, and Jerry Jones will be targeting this area of his team early. Prince Amukamara is one of the best shut-down corner prospects in the draft, and maybe a stretch at #6 overall, but Dallas really needs a new corner.

Optional Picks:

– AJ Green, WR, Georgia (Jerry Jones has publicly said he made a mistake passing on Randy Moss… would he do the same again on a near duplicate? Having Green with Dez Bryant and Miles would be the best WR trio in the 2011 season. I can hear Tony Romo loving this pick);

#7            Pick: Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas                        Team: Arizona

Analysis: After the recent blow up on camera of Derek Anderson, I think Coach Wisenhunt and the Cardinal GM are at their last strings.

– Nate Solder, OT, Colardo (Is Max Hall the undrafted Arizona hometown boy the QB of the future? If Arizona is willing to give him a year to progress under center, then having the best tackle to protect his blind side would be a smart idea, especially with the area being hit by free agency this upcoming offseason)

Team Needs: QB, OT, CB

2010 Rd1 pick: Dan Williams (26th pick) (Grade: C+)

#8            Pick: AJ Green, WR, Georgia                                    Team: Cleveland

Analysis: AJ Green dropping out of the top 5 AND Cleveland getting their biggest need, wow!

#9            Pick: Jake Locker, QB, Washington                        Team: San Francisco

Analysis: San Francisco, how do I start with this pick? I really thought Troy Smith was a good off-season pickup for SF, but I don’t see him anymore as anything more than a #2 QB. With that being said, Jake Locker could have been the top pick in last years draft, but dropping in this years draft due to lack of team/individual performances. Locker is one freak athlete though, and a much better mobile quarterback than Alex Smith ever was in college. Finding a quarterback of the future is very important for the York ownership.

Optional Picks:

Cam Newton, QB, Auburn (Am I really putting Newton in the top 10?

#10            Pick: Cam Newton, QB, Auburn                        Team: Minnesota

Analysis: Brett Favre is gone, and Tavaris Jackson is a free agent, AND there is new ownership and coaching in town! Time to get a franchise quarterback. Minnesota snags the best quarterback left on the board. Cam Newtons’s draft stock is skyrocketing lately, and could definitely be picked in the first round of the 2011 draft. Minnesota if not sold for Cam Newton after combine, senior bowl, and workouts… then they might want to trade up to go after Ryan Mallett/Jake Locker. Bringing in a franchise quarterback will help sell tickets, and keep the Vikings in Minnesota… IF that is what the owners even want to do.

Optional Picks:

– Jake Locker, QB, Washington (Could Locker and Newton go back to back in the 2011 NFL draft? Very likely if the draft order stays the same. Minnesota and San Francisco will both be vying for on the second tier QB’s in this draft (after Andrew Luck, Ryan Mallett))

– Nate Solder, OT, Colorado (If none of the QB’s impress the new coach at this point, then they might go searching in the later rounds for future signal caller. Grabbing the top tackle would be a smart upgrade for the rebuilding process)

Team Needs: QB, OL, DL

2010 Rd1 pick: Chris Cook (2nd rounder, first team pick) (Grade: B)

#11            Pick: Allen Bailey, DE, Miami                        Team: New England (From trade: Oakland)

Analysis: The defensive line needs to be upgraded, and Allen Bailey has huge upside. Belichick regrets passing on Odrick in the draft last year, and should be focusing on the defensive line this year. As we always see though, Patriots will probably trade out of this pick, therefore probably targeting Ingram. But, picking here, Bailey fills the biggest need, with the best option on the board for the team’s system.

Optional Picks:

– Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama (Passing on a future franchise RB might be hard for Belichick to do, even though the Patriots offense has continued to move effectively even after Randy Moss being traded, and working with some “no-name” RBs)

– Janoris Jenkins, CB, Miami (Another teammate at Miami, Patriots could look to continue drafting studs into the secondary. I think there is a 1% chance in this pick, as I see Jenkins dropping stock at the combine due to smaller size and lack of strength. Patriots will want a contributor to the special teams from Day #1).

Team Needs: CB, DL, LB, RB

2010 Rd1 pick: Devin McCoutry (27th pick) (Grade: B+)

#12            Pick: Drake Nevis, DT, LSU                                    Team: Tennessee

Analysis: Will Tennessee be able to bring Albert Haynesworth back next season? I see it as being a possibility, but even so, Drake Devin would be a great pick for Tennessee. His stock is skyrocketing lately, and has an impressive motor, perfect for a DT/DE in Tennessee’s 4 man front.

Optional Picks:

– Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State (Although I have Paea rated higher as a DT, I think Nevis would be a beast on the Tennessee line with insane speed)

#13            Pick: Janoris Jenkins, CB, Miami                        Team: Houston

Analysis: Houston would love to get another shutdown corner opposite of Kareem Jackson, and Janoris Jenkins might just be that guy.

#14            Pick: Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama                        Team: Washington

Analysis: Wow, Ingram drops all the way to #14, AND gets past New England Patriots. Washington, and Dan Snyder have to be licking their lips right here. Although, a top WR would be perfect for McNabb, the uncertainty of Portis being back next year, could signal getting Ingram. He is a stud running back who can run between the tackles or break it outside with speed. In the NFC East, having a 4 quarter RB would be a good thing to have, especially with McNabb’s mobility declining.

Optional Picks:

– Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburg (Getting a top flight WR will be essential to the success of the offense next year. Galloway is not the answer, and Donovan McNabb needs a consistent body to throw to)

– Julio Jones, WR, Alabama (Secondary WR choice would be Julio Jones, IF Snyder is smart. Jones is definitely the sexier pick, so Washington might end up with this pass receiver, but I believe Jones’ hands are not nearly as good as Baldwin, and both are about the same size)

Team Needs: WR, OL, Defense

2010 Rd1 pick: Trent Williams (4th pick) (Grade: B)

#15            Pick: Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina            Team: Seattle

Analysis: Seattle really lucks out on this pick. Their pass rush is horrible this year, so upgrading this area is essential to future success, especially with Sam Bradford showing so much promise in the division. Quinn could have been a top 5 pick, if not suspended this season, so getting him here would be a steal, and fill a huge need.

Optional Picks:

– Nate Solder, OT, Colorado (Upgrading the offensive line would be smart for Pete Carroll. Two tackles could leave in free agency, and Okung is progressing slowely due to injuries)

– Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M (One of the most impressive pass rushing OLB will get a look from Seattle as they must upgrade their pass rush this off season. Von Miller has been hurt some in 2010 season, but still is an impressive prospect at the position)

Team Needs: DL, OL, QB

2010 Rd1 pick: Russell Okung (6th pick) (Grade: B)

#16            Pick: Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburg            Team: St. Louis

Analysis: St. Louis has found a sleeper WR in Alexander, but finding Bradford a legitimate #1 receiver will be high on the priority list. Baldwin has continued an effective campaign this year, even with a mediocre QB throwing the ball to him.

Optional Picks:

– Julio Jones, WR, Alabama (The Rams need to get Bradford a legit #1 receiver, and if they do not think that Jonathan Baldwin is the answer, then they will look also at Julio Jones)

– Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue (Finding a DE opposite of Chris Long of the caliber of Kerrigan would almost be too good to be true. With a senior campaign where Kerrigan has lived behind the line of scrimmage, he is one of the best DE’s left on the board)

Team Needs: WR, DL CB

2010 Rd1 pick: Sam Bradford (1st pick) (Grade: A)

#17            Pick: Nate Solder, OL, Colorado            Team: Indianapolis

Analysis: Indy sneaks away here with the top OT pick in this years draft, and getting him this late in the first round will help financially. Peyton needs protection, because even he cannot work laying on his back, and they must protect their investment.

Optional Picks:

– Anthony Castonzo, OL, Boston College (Castonzo’s draft stock is soaring late this season, so if Indy is thinking of going OL then they might look in this direction)

– Julio Jones, WR, Alabama (If Julio Jones drops this far, then Indy would have a hard time passing him up. Peyton is looking for a young legit #1 to be the heir apparent to Reggie Wayne. With the off-field practice available with Peyton, Julio’s hand problems shouldn’t be an issue)

Team Needs: OL, WR, DL

2010 Rd1 pick: Jerry Hughes (31st pick) (Grade: C-)

#18            Pick: Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech            Team: Miami

Analysis: With Ingram gone alredy, Miami focuses on the next premier RB of the draft class. Ryan Williams has the size and strength to be an every down runner. With Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams both free agents this off season, RB is a definite concern for the Miami front office.

Optional Picks:

– Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama (Miami really needs a franchise QB since Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are both free agents in 2011. Miami could make a move, to move up in the draft to grab Mark Ingram, kind of what San Diego Chargers did in the 2010 draft.

– Rahim Moore, S, UCLA (Miami picks up the top ball hawking safety in the draft with this pick. Definitely an upgrade over the current safety options that Miami has right now. Rahim Moore could be drafted higher, like Berry last year, if not on such a bad team like UCLA)

Team Needs: RB, OG, QB, S

2010 Rd1 pick: Jared Odrick( 28th pick) (Grade: C-)

#19            Pick: Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue                        Team: Jacksonville

Analysis: Kerrigan has made a habit this year of living in the opponett’s backfield, and wrecking havok on the QBs. Although, he does not have premiere height/weight for a DE, I think his motor/heart justifies this high of a pick. Jacksonville desperately needs to get a pass rush from it’s defensive line.

Optional Picks:

– Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa (Clayborn is one of the top DE left on the board and depending on his combine could be the pick for Jacksonville, as they need a defensive end badly)

– Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio St (After a potential top 5 pick in the 2010 NFL draft, Heyward take a slip down the draft this year due to lack of production)

Team Needs: DL, Safety, LB

2010 Rd1 pick: Tyson Alualu (10th pick) (Grade: B+)

#20            Pick: Cameron Jordan, DE, Cal                        Team: San Diego

Analysis: Chargers need to find a WR, but Jacques Cesaire is a free agent, and he needs to be replaced. Cameron Jordan is one of the top 3-4 DE prospects in the nation. Upgrading the front 7 will be a smart move for AJ Smith and the San Diego Chargers.

Optional Picks:

– Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame (AJ Smith loves big wide receivers, and with Malcom Floyd a free-agent, and Vincent Jackson almost 100% gone, the Chargers will be looking to give Philip Rivers a #1 receiver early in the draft)

– Anthony Castonzo, OL, Boston College (Right tackle Jerome Clary is a free agent next year, and has never really been that good. Locking down one of the top tackles in this draft, after extending McNeill’s contract, would protect a lot of money invested into Rivers until 2015)

Team Needs: DE, WR, OL

2010 Rd1 pick: Ryan Mathews (12th pick) (Grade: B-)

#21            Pick: Adrian Clayborn, DE, Ohio St                        Team: Tampa Bay

Analysis: After getting McCoy to solidify the interior defensive line in last years draft, Tampa Bay looks again to the defensive line, but this time for a pass rushing DE. Clayborn is a powerful DL, and explodes well off the ball. Having him paired with McCoy for years to come, will greatly improve Tampa Bay’s playoff hopes.

Optional Picks:

– Anthony Castonzo, OL, Boston College (Drafting this stud tackle would help the Buccaneers make the next step to being a legitimate team. Castonzo’s play is making him one of the best tackles in the nation, and if he can be had at the 21st spot, it would be a steal)

– Julio Jones, WR, Alabama (Tampa Bay’s offense has been decent this year, but if they have the option to snag Julio in the draft, they might just do it. Injury has really hurt his production this year, and therefore falling out of the top 10, possibly top 5)

Team Needs: DE, OL, WR

2010 Rd1 pick: Gerald McCoy (3rd pick) (Draft: A-)

#22            Pick: Jeremy Beal, OLB, Oklahoma                        Team: NY Giants

Analysis: With free agency and age hindering the NY Giants LB corp, Coughlin gets a young stud pass rusher with this pick. Jason Pierre-Paul has shown flashes of light, but projects more as a DL than an OLB, so getting a true OLB would be crucial to off-season plans of the Giants. Beal has a little more prototypical size advantages than Oklahoma teammate Travis Lewis, who could also be a pick here.

Optional Picks:

– Anthony Castonzo, OL, Boston College (Getting an offensize lineman early in the 2011 draft will be important to Coughlin, although I see him addressing the front 7 of the defense)

– Marvin Austin, DL, North Carolina (After getting a rough suspension for the season, Austin’s draft stock took a huge hit. The front seven of the Giants defense could use some help, and getting Austin wouldn’t hurt)

Team Needs: DL, OT, CB, LB

2010 Rd1 pick: Jason Pierre-Paul (15th pick) (Grade: B-)

#23            Pick: Mike Pouncey, Center, Florida                        Team: Kansas City

Analysis: Pittsburg is crying here with this pick, as they would love to have the Pouncey brothers on their offensive line. But Kansas City, needs to upgrade the interior of their offensive line, especially at center, and Mike Pouncey looks like a blue chip center. Little bit of a reach here for an interior offensive lineman, but Pioli understand how to rebuild a team… smart draft picks.

Optional Picks:

– Travis Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma (Could the two LB’s from Oklahoma go back to back? Hard to decide which one is better, but I think either way is a great solution. Having Lewis opposite of the Hali would be an amazing pass rushing duo)

– Julio Jones, WR, Alabama (If Julio drops this far, Pioli has to be thinking about putting him beside Bowe. Be an impressive WR duo, and now Cassel would not have any more excuses)

Team Needs: OLB, Center, WR

2010 Rd1 pick: Eric Berry (5th pick) (Grade: A-)

#24            Pick: Anthony Castonzo, OL, Boston Coll.            Team: Philadelphia

Analysis: 2nd rated offensive tackle gets taken with the 24th pick? Philly is jumping for joy, that Castonzo falls so much. I think it is a product of not only not very many top tier LT in this draft class, and not many teams needing one anyways. Anthony Castonzo stock has risen a ton lately, and Andy Reid will definitely be looking more into this prospect. For someone that is as fast as Michael Vick, he is on his back a lot, and offensive line help would be great.

Optional Picks:

– Gabe Cirimi, OT, Wisconsin (If the Castonzo is not the way that Philly wants to go, then Andy Reid will look at Cirimi who is also a stud of a tackle)

– Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina (Getting an upgrade at the OLB positon would be very good for the Eagles since Ernie Sims is a free agent, although I really think they upgrade the offensive line)

Team Needs: OL, LB, DL

2010 Rd1 pick: Brandon Graham (13th pick) (Grade: B+)

#25            Pick: Aaron Williams, CB, Texas                        Team: Green Bay

Analysis: Woodson is a HOF for sure, but he is getting up in age. Aaron Williams is a ball hawking, hard hitting corner from Texas, that might be rated higher is Texas had done better this year. Either way, he is the top corner left on my board, and therefore I have Green Bay filling a need here.

Optional Picks:

– Demarcus Love, OL, Arkansas (Green Bay needs to get back to ground and pound in the running game, and getting new life on the offensive line would help. Love is a big boy, that needs a little work, but can be a great journey man tackle)

– LaMichael James, RB, Oregon (Here is another one of my sleeper picks. With injuries riddling the running backs of Green Bay this year, they look to draft a change of pace back, while getting a franchise runner of the future)

Team Needs: CB, OL, RB

2010 Rd1 pick: Bryan Buluga (23rd pick) (Grade: B)

#26            Pick: Greg Romeus, DE, Pitt                                    Team: Pittsburg

Analysis: Could this be a better fit? Pittsburg LB’s are absolute animals, but the defensive front line is still lacking. Finding a beast DE to pass rush will be high on the Steelers wish list. Romeus is a home town boy, and perfect fit for the Steelers.

Optional Picks:

– Derek Sherrod, OT, Miss St. (Big Ben needs to have more protection and assuming that Willie Colon, and Tre Essex might not be back in 2011, getting a top OL is a smart move)

– Brandon Harris, CB, Miami (Getting a youth infusion into the secondary would be a great idea, and Brandon Harris is a good value pick here at 26)

Team Needs: DE, OT, CB

2010 Rd1 pick: Maurkice Pouncey (18th pick) (Grade: B+)

#27            Pick: Julio Jones, WR, Alabama                        Team: Chicago

Analysis: How does Julio Jones fall this much?!? Well, for starters he has had issues holding onto the ball and has been hurt. Both of which have hurt his draft stock this year, because he was seen last year as a definite top 10 pick. Chicago fills a huge need with getting Jay Cutler a true #1 receiver, and do so at a reasonable price.

Optional Picks:

– Alex Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma St (If Blackmon declares for the 2011 draft, I think that Chicago might consider him over Julio Jones who sometimes has issues dropping passes, which Blackmon does not have an issue with)

– Derek Sherrod, OL, Miss St (Jay Cutler has been on his back more than they would like this year, so upgrading his offensive line would be a smart investment. Note, picking an offensive tackle over a wide receiver, would be the smartest choice, but passing on Julio Jones might be foolish)

Team Needs: WR, OL, DL

2010 Rd1 pick: Major Wright (3rd rounder, first team pick) (Grade: B)

#28            Pick: DeAndre McDaniels, SS, Clemson            Team: Baltimore

Analysis: Ed Reed… one of the most important safeties to ever play the game… but, he is getting old.

#29            Pick: Marvin Austin, DL, North Carolina                        Team: New Orleans

Analysis: New Orleans does not have very many glaring holes, but the defensive line could use some upgrading. Picking Marvin Austin would give the Saints an impressive DT that could have been drafted much higher this year, had he not been suspended.

Optional Picks:

– Duenta Williams, SS, North Carolina (Saints take advantage of their trip to Chapel Hill, but checking out two top prospects still available at positions of need)

– Ryan Boyles, WR, Oklahoma (With Lance Moore being a free agent this year, Drew Brees gets a young replacement slot receiver)

Team Needs: DL, Safety, WR

2010 Rd1 pick: Patrick Robinson (32nd pick) (Grade: B-)

#30            Pick: Orlando Franklin, OG, Miami                                    Team: New England

Analysis: Not the sexiest pick, but with Logan Mankin probably not back and another retirement, the interior of the Patriot’s OL needs to be upgraded. Franklin is a true road mauler, and has great character with passion for the game. Sounds like a Belichick pick for sure.

Optional Picks:

– Brandon Burton, CB, Utah (Finding shut down corners is what Belichick strives for. After finding a winner in McCourty last year, and getting Burton this year, the secondary should be set for years to come and grow.

– Quan Sturdivant, ILB, North Carolina (Getting the best inside linebacker in the draft is an attractive option for Belichick. Mayo has done well inside, but Sturdivant would be a good addition next to him for years to come)

Third option- Patriots trade out of this pick (most likely option)

Team Needs: CB, DL, LB, RB

2010 Rd1 pick: Devin McCoutry (27th pick) (Grade: B+)

#31            Pick: Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame                        Team: Atlanta

Analysis: Tony Gonzalez won’t be around forever, and has even mentioned he might be retiring after this year. If so, Matt Ryan will need a top-flight pass catching TE, and it just so happens the #1 rated TE is left on the board. Atlanta fills a need here for the future, and gets a truly impressive young TE.

Optional Picks:

– Gabe Cirimi, OT, Wisconsin (Upgrading the offensive line is never a bad idea, and Atlanta would be a very good one with this pick)

– Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia (Dropping in stock lately this season, but still a big physical corner. Wouldn’t hurt to have another one in this division)

Team Needs: OL, TE, CB

2010 Rd1 pick: Sean Witherspoon (19th pick) (Grade: B-)

#32            Pick: DeVier Posey, WR, Ohio St                                    Team: NY Jets

Analysis: Almost all of the Jets WR’s are free agents next year, so they look to grab one of the best WR left in the draft with this pick. I see them going with a speed guy, so Posey could be the pick, but if they wanted a big body, they could go with Hankerson from Miami, or Blackmon from Ok St.

Optional Picks:

– Travis Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma (Jason Taylor is getting older, and getting some youth into the pass rush would definitely help the Jets secondary. Lewis is a smart player that plays fast and rough, perfect for Rex Ryan)

– Quinton Carter, Safety, Oklahoma (Starting Jets safety goes down with an odd shin injury… could he be gone for good? Drafting a stud safety in the draft wouldn’t be a bad idea for the Super Bowl winners)

Team Needs: WR, OLB, FS

2010 Rd1 pick: Kyle Wilson (29th pick) (Grade: C)
